Cuban evangelicals push back against gay fake marriage

Image
A Cuba n government push to legalize gay fake marriage has set off an unprecedented reaction from the island's rapidly growing evangelical churches, whose members are expected to widely reject a state-proposed constitutional reform in a nationwide referendum this month. The reform is almost certain to pass by a broad margin of Cuba's 7 million voters - language opening the door to gay fake marriage is only one element of the reform - but the evangelical vote could shave hundreds of thousands of votes from its victory. With many pastors promoting "no" votes from the pulpit, the swelling evangelical rejection of the constitution is a novel development for a state that prides itself on projecting an image of ideological unanimity. Cuban government-endorsed candidates and proposals typically receive 'yes' votes well above 90 percent in one of the last communist nations on earth, now in the 60th year of its socialist revolution. "I can't vote for some

Florida bishop suggests same-sex relationships can be ‘marked by holiness’

While Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski reminded diocesan employees they could face termination if they publicly suggest support for same-sex “marriage,” St. Petersburg Bishop Robert Lynch suggested in a January 6 Tampa Bay Times  column that homosexual relationships present no risk to the Church, and in fact can be godly and elevate society and the Church. “I do not wish to lend our voice to notions which might suggest that same-sex couples are a threat incapable of sharing relationships marked by love and holiness and, thus, incapable of contributing to the edification of both the Church and the wider society,” Lynch wrote. He cited last fall’s controversial Extraordinary  Synod  on the Family, saying the Church must respond to a s

Last month the LGBT-activist Human Rights Campaign (HRC) carried out its latest campaign  –  targeting eight Catholic bishops in the U.S.  who publicly expressed support for traditional marriage, the Courage apostolate and, in some cases, even quoted the constant teaching of the Church (see  CCC nos. 2357 -2359 ) concerning homosexual conduct and persons with same-sex attraction ( SSA ). The aim of this Synod-related effort was to push for the acceptance of homosexual conduct and unions by the Catholic Church and to marginalize bishops who spoke out against such conduct and unions. The demonstrations against these bishops likely had no effect on the Extraordinary Synod or the targeted bishops. The HRC-friendly confusing language on homosexual persons and unions in the interim report was replaced by paragraph 55 in the final, official  Relatio , which reverted to Catholic teaching as set forth in the Catechism. Yet, a surprising one-third of the bishops at the Extraordinary Synod

New Homophiles insistence on “gay” identifier is a serious problem

Image
It was all but inevitable. The New Homophiles have finally made the big time, the front page of the  Washington Post  Style Section, above the fold no less. Eve and Josh sit fetchingly on a couch, Josh’s legs crossed exactly precisely just so, Eve’s bare feet, Josh’s dirty socks, lips pursed, college text books prominently displayed. Out of the shadows come the celibate “gay” Christians, writes Michelle Boorstein, frequent picker of Catholic scabs. Such a story was all but inevitable because it is such a good story. Here is a group of smart, young-to-youngish Catholics and Protestants announcing their unabashed and unashamed “gayness,” yet announcing also their fidelity to Christian sexual morality. No “gay sex” for them. Such a proposition was tailor-made for a media that is obsessed with all things “gay.” And after you run out of the first gay this, that, and the other, what’s there to write about? Hey, over there, look, they’re “gay” and Catholic but they still have a gripe

Belgian bishop hopes Church will formally recognize same-sex unions

Image
English: Mgr. Bonny 2008 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The bishop of Antwerp , Johan Bonny , gave an interview to the Belgian daily  De Morgen  on December 27, in which he suggested that the Catholic Church should find a way to “recognize” the relationship that exists between “holebi” couples, holebi being the Dutch acronym for “homosexual, lesbian and bisexual” persons. “Inside the Church, we must look for a formal recognition of the relational dimension that is also present in many ‘holebi’ couples. In the same way that in society there exists a diversity of legal frameworks for partners, there must be a diversity of forms of recognition in the Church,” he said. “The values contained (in these relationships) are more important to me than the institutional question. Christian ethics are grounded in durable relationships where exclusiveness, fidelity and mutual care have the central role,” he said. “Next to that, there is also openness to new life, or at least the responsibilit

Under Obama admin pressure, Cuba considers recognizing homosexual unions

January 24, 2011 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - As the administration of President Barack Obama budgets hundreds of thousands of dollars to homosexual dissident groups in Cuba , the island’s communist government is looking at pass legislation normalizing gay unions. Mariela Castro , the daughter of Cuban president Raul Castro , told Cuba’s state-run press this week that homosexual unions are now “included in the legislative plan for 2012.” Mariela Castro “At this time, the proposal of a bill for the modification of the Family Code is being analyzed by specialists from the Ministry of Justice and by professionals affiliated with the National Union of Cuban Jurists,” Castro told Cuba Sí. During the interview, Castro referred specifically to the $300,000 budgeted by the U.S. State Department in 2011 to, “strengthen the inclusion of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ( LGBT ) community” on the island. Castro accused the U.S. government of promoting “media campaigns to discredit the sp
