BALTIMORE, November 13, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - The archbishop who leads the U.S. bishops' fight against same-sex “marriage” says the U.S. Supreme Court ’s June rulings on marriage has renewed the bishops' determination to defend true marriage. In an address at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) annual General Assembly on November 11 th , Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco lampooned the Supreme Court’s twin decisions of June 26 th  that ruled unconstitutional the definition of true marriage in the Defense of Marriage Act , and found the Prop. 8 backers had no standing to defend the California law. According to Cordileone, who chairs the USCCB’s Subcommittee on the Promotion and Defense of Marriage, the rulings were "the most significant judicial decisions on marriage this country has ever experienced.” Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone speaks to the U.S. Bishops in Baltimore on Nov. 11, 2013. “By advancing redefinition,

Will Homosexual Marriage affect my marriage?

Image
Español: Intercambio de anillos entre los novios (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) In the attempt to defend permitting homosexuals to marry (i.e., man to man and woman to woman), proponents of homosexual marriage ask how such marriages would personally affect those who are opposed to it.  This is worth answering, and I believe there are two areas we need to look at in response. Philosophical Concerns How does a murder in another state between two people living in a trailer park in the middle of nowhere, among people whom we have never known and who don't know anyone we know, affect us personally?  It doesn't, but because it has no effect on us personally this doesn't mean that we should ignore the moral issues associated with murder  and not condemn such actions.  Murder is morally wrong , and when any moral law is broken we are all ultimately affected and we know that if such actions were to increase, society would be affected...no matter where you are. Am I compa

Dr. Ben Carson steps down as college speaker after furor over his defense of marriage

BALTIMORE , April 11, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Famed pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson announced Wednesday that he will not speak at graduation ceremonies for students at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and School of Education. Dr. Carson, who rose from poverty to become one of the leading neurosurgeons in the world, was slated to give the commencement speech at Johns Hopkins, where he has practiced since 1977. But homosexual activists, angry about comments Carson made in favor of traditional marriage, mounted a campaign to force the university to disinvite him. Carson, 61, discussed his views on same-sex “marriage” last month on  Fox News , expressing his concern that a redefinition of marriage to include homosexual couples could be a slippery slope. “Marriage is between a man and a woman,” Carson told Fox News host Sean Hannity . “It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group — be they gays, be they NAMBLA , be they people who beli

Limbaugh: Will Homosexual “marriage” lead to “normalization” of pedophilia

Image
PALM BEACH, January 9, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Conservative radio heavyweight Rush Limbaugh outraged homosexual advocates  Monday  by comparing the movement to normalize pedophilia to the recent groundswell of public support for same-sex ‘marriage.’ Referring to a  recent article  in the British paper The Guardian detailing the growing number of academics seeking to reclassify pedophilia as a ‘ sexual orientation ,’ Limbaugh said, “There is a movement on to normalize pedophilia, and I guarantee you your reaction to that is probably much the same as your reaction when you first heard about gay marriage .”  Rush Limbaugh website The talk show host suggested that just as the idea of homosexual ‘marriage’ was once shocking, but has become commonplace, pedophilia may follow the same path to cultural acceptance.   “What has happened to gay marriage?” said Limbaugh. “It’s become normal — and in fact, with certain people in certain demographics it’s the most important issu

Archbishop speaks out as Catholic Maryland Gov. pushes gay ‘marriage’

The archbishop of Baltimore is warning Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley that he will have a vigorous fight on his hands if he tries to legalize same-sex “marriage.”  The governor had announced Friday that he is making gay “marriage” a legislative priority, following the success of gay activists in New York . “Maryland is not New York,” wrote Archbishop Edwin O’Brien of Baltimore in a statement to LifeSiteNews Tuesday.  “During the 2011 session, Maryland lawmakers chose not to redefine marriage because they listened to their Maryland constituents and stood by their deeply-held moral convictions.” A Maryland same-sex “marriage” bill passed the State senate in February, but it failed in the House of Delegates in March.  At that time, Gov. O’Malley had promised to sign the bill if the House had approved it. But he has now pledged to step up his efforts following the example of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo , a fellow nominal Catholic.  “There are times in Annapolis when a governor’s s
