Homosexuality- Lust or God's Law

Image
We often think that “our day and age” differs significantly from previous eras. We tend to think that our day presents more dangerous and stubborn problems, requiring more complex and sophisticated solutions, from wiser and nobler people, namely ourselves. Someone has dubbed this attitude “chronological snobbery.” But one thing puts the lie to this self deception—the continuing existence and destruction of lust. Lust involves any strong desire, craving, or want that opposes the holy will and command of God . Lust perverts, twists, and defiles all that is good and beautiful, and this is particularly true with sexual or carnal lust. For example, some people today tout homosexuality as an “orientation” equal in virtue to heterosexuality.  They appeal to the “love” shared between two persons of the same gender, and on that basis, contend that equality and public acceptance must be guaranteed. To some, these sexual passions are so strong as to appear innate. Moreover, we a

Why has Homosexuality always been seen as a great evil?

SODOM AND HOMOSEXUALITY. Almost a century ago, G. K. Chesterton wrote, “Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable.”  Though in many ways that remains true, in the issue of homosexuality it defines the controversy. Some today still consider homosexuality an evil, whether excusable or not. Others march for the rights of those they believe to be simply practicing an acceptable alternative lifestyle that expresses their sexual preferences . Though Genesis 19 is not a story about the evils of homosexuality, the narrative has traditionally been a starting point for discussion of the biblical view of homosexuality. We include this discussion under Breakout Points because in it we are digressing from the purpose of the author. Nonetheless, given the prominence of the issue in contemporary society, a brief comment is in order. The sin of Sodom. The first question to be asked is whether the text of Ge

Sodom and Gomorrah and same sex sin - homosexuality

The Destruction Of Sodom And Gomorrah, a painting by John Martin (painter), died 1854, thus 100 years. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Sodom and Gomorrah is so closely linked with God’s wrath, giving, as it does, one of the earliest examples of the pouring out of His wrath in the period after the Flood , that it became a byword for sinfulness that brings certain judgment.5 It likewise is referenced as evidence of the hardheartedness of sinners who simply refuse to repent in the face of certain doom. Jeremiah 23:14 speaks of those who refuse to turn back from their wickedness as being like Sodom. Objection Stated   It is highly unlikely that “know” in Genesis 19 means to know sexually or in a homosexual context. The word is used over nine hundred times in the Bible , and it simply does not refer to homosexual activity in any of those instances. Biblical Response It is surely true that yada does not refer to sexual activity in the majority of its appearances. Given that the

Homosexuals Advocates call Australia - bloody backwards

Image
Homosexual advocate: It’s time Australia stopped being so bloody backward. New homosexual marketing tries to manipulate moral thinking but fails! Cath Flack-Crane says her daughter shouldn’t have to wait for politicians to pull their finger out so she can live the life she chooses. In other words, all politicians should support my lesbian immoral lifestyle choice . All politicians should 'pull their finger out' and pass any legislation that I want! The homosexual lobby are trying to appeal through a new TV advertisement to the public that homosexual sin isnt sin but it is moral, clean, worthy, even righteous. But nobody believes it. But they tried! They involves mums and dads, a Vietnamese grandmother, a couple of straight mates and even a pair of gay beef farmers to promote and push sodomy onto all Australians . Homosexual campaigners will launch a new TV commercial — to be broadcast on channels 7, 9 and 10 and Foxtel — seeking to portray 'ordinary' Austral

Questions About Homosexuality and the Bible

Image
The Destruction Of Sodom And Gomorrah, a painting by John Martin (painter), died 1854, thus 100 years. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) QUESTIONS REGARDING homosexuality and the Bible are most frequently asked for good reason: They are most important.  Some of these questions also touch on how homosexuality is treated in traditional Jewish and Christian literature and in ancient Greek and Roman law codes. Page references accompanying each answer point to relevant passages in this volume. Each question is answered from the two perspectives in this controversy . The revisionist answers are taken from writings of key defenders of this view. Their positions are represented as fairly as possible in this brief format. For differentiation, the two sides are identified as The Revisionist Answer (or Claim) and The Biblical Answer . At one point the Jewish response is noted. This format is used with the awareness that some revisionists also argue that they hold the biblical position. It sho

Boswell claims inhospitable not homosexual acts in Judges 19:22

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Boswell and others argue that the account in Judges 19:22ff. also refers only to inhospitality or violence. We all can agree that the writer of Judges has clearly modeled his telling of the story on Genesis 19 , and we should interpret them the same way.36  Although Boswell claims that “Jews and Christians have overwhelmingly failed to interpret this story as one of homosexuality,”37 he fails to back up this claim with any sources.  A footnote admits that some sources have interpreted the act as sodomy. Although the definitions for sodomy have been wide enough to include several sexual vices, no one has tried to include inhospitality as a possible meaning, except in the sense that all sexual attacks are inhospitable. The Levite could hardly view the interest of the men of Gibeah as simply an inhospitable act. In Judges 20:5–6, he recounts that t

Matthew Vines on the Homosexuality of Genesis 19 and Sodom and Gomorrah

Image
Sodom and Gomorrha, Alte Pinakothek, Room 23 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Mr. Vines says, " Genesis 19 . The actions of the men of Sodom are intended to underscore their cruel treatment of outsiders--not to somehow tell us that they were gay . . . It’s now widely conceded by scholars on both sides of this debate that Sodom and Gomorrah do not offer biblical evidence to support the belief that homosexuality is a sin ." Matthew Vines cites no reference to demonstrate that it is "widely conceded by scholars on both sides of this debate that Sodom and Gomorrah do not offer  biblical  evidence to support the belief that homosexuality is a sin.”  Just saying it doesn't make it so.  In contradiction to his assertion, a quick look into commentaries on Genesis 19 provides the following: The term "sodomy” is derived from this passage. It is widely held that the severity of God ’s judgment of Sodom had to do with the prevalence of homosexuality there. 1 Sodom and

Does the Bible mention Lesbians?

Image
The Destruction Of Sodom And Gomorrah, a painting by John Martin (painter), died 1854, thus 100 years. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Some are under the assumption that, while the Bible condemns gay sex between men , it nowhere condemns being a lesbian/ lesbianism .  Leviticus 18:22   and  20:13   mention men having sex with other men, but say nothing of women having sex with other women. In the Sodom and Gomorrah account in Genesis 19 , the men of the cities wanted to gang rape other men. First Corinthians 6:9   mentions effeminate men, very likely referring to homosexuals, but does not mention lesbians. So, does the Bible in fact condemn male homosexuality , but not lesbianism? Romans 1:26-27   puts this invalid assumption to rest: “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones . In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed in
