Republican senators have breathed new life into a religious liberty protection bill, the passage of which was deemed hopeless while Barack Obama occupied the oval office. The newest version of the bill, however, also contains language that labels support for same-sex “marriage,” as long as recognized by federal law, a “religious liberty” issue like belief in man-woman marriage. On Thursday, Sen. Mike Lee , R-UT, reintroduced  The First Amendment Defense Act (FADA). It is a bill designed to prevent the federal government from discriminating against individuals or institutions based on their beliefs about marriage. “What an individual or organization believes about the traditional definition of marriage is not – and should never be – a part of the government’s decision-making process when distributing licenses, accreditations, or grants,”  said Sen. A local Republican politician is taking flak for telling a teenager being raised by lesbians that she has a right to a father. Prince William County Brentsville Supervisor Jeanine Lawson spoke of 15-year-old Rose BruMar’s natural right to a father when the teen told her she’s being raised by “two moms.” Lawson  confirmed to local media  that she said “every child deserves a mother and father” after Rose approached her outside Gainesville Middle School on election day. According to Lawson’s account, she and the teen had a “pleasant and civil” conversation. The teen told her, “One of my moms doesn’t like you.” “That caught me by surprise a bit,” Lawson said. “She told me things about her family life, and I told her in a very polite way, I said I believe children deserve a mother and a father. The United States ’ commitment to   religious liberty   is   being tested   and hostility toward traditional moral beliefs is on the rise, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito told a group of Catholic lawyers Wednesday night. Justice Alito repeated the words he had written in his own dissent in the   Obergefell case   legalizing homosexual “marriage,” telling the group that he suspected the decision would be used to “vilify those who disagree, and treat them as bigots.”  "We are seeing this is coming to pass," Alito said. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry has blocked at least 37 state government legal contracts because they include language meant to protect gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people from discrimination in the workplace, according to state documents and interviews with state officials.   The contracts affect legal issues surrounding the state's ports, potential medical malpractice awards for patients and oversight of state bonds, among others, according to a review of documents and talks with the agencies involved.  The Louisiana Division of Administration -- part of Democratic Gov.  John Bel Edwards ' administration -- said it has tracked at least 26 contracts with private lawyers for a variety of services that Landry rejected because of the nondiscrimination clause.
