Caesar, Coercion, and the Christian Conscience: A Dangerous Confusion

Image
English: Wedding cake of an immoral homosexual marriage, (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Several states are now considering legislation that would provide explicit protections to citizens whose consciences will not allow an endorsement of same-sex marriage. The bills vary by state, as do the prospects for legislative passage, but the key issues remain constant. Millions of American citizens are facing a direct collision between their moral convictions and the demands of their government . The cases are now piling up. A wedding photographer in New Mexico, cake bakers in Colorado and Oregon, and a florist in Washington State have all found themselves in this predicament. Each now faces the coercive power of the state. They are being told, in no uncertain terms, that they must participate in providing services for same-sex weddings or go out of business. The bills now being considered in several states are attempts to protect these citizens from government coercion. They take the form o

Obama administration cranks up executive actions to give gays government benefits

Image
WASHINGTON, D.C. , December 20, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – As Congress goes home for Christmas,  the Obama administration is now using executive powers  and other regulatory policies to benefit homosexuals. This week, the Social Security Administration   announced  that it is starting to give homosexual couples “survivor benefits,” formerly reserved for heterosexual couples who were legally married. Such benefits were  intended to benefit lifelong stay-at-home mothers upon their death of the family breadwinner . The Obama administration is currently limiting benefit recipients to those who have been “married” in a state where homosexual relationships are legal. This may change to incorporate couples in states where homosexuals cannot get “married.” Last week, Education Secretary Arne Duncan   continued  the administration's efforts to help gay couples with student loans. Duncan  said  the administration would not differentiate between “married” homosexuals and wedded h

Inter-American Commission Criticized for “Insidious” Push for Sexual Orientation

Image via Wikipedia WASHINGTON, DC , November 18 ( C-FAM )- Legal and human rights experts are criticizing the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (Commission) for “overstepping” its authority and advancing a dangerous trend that harms the cause of human rights. The criticism follows the Commissions decision to “strengthen its capacity” to promote sexual orientation by creating a “Unit on the Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex ( LGBTI ) Persons.” The Commission, a branch of the Organization of American States (OAS), called the new Unit “part of the comprehensive approach the IACHR has adopted.” A close observer to the Organization of American States and its various bodies called this development part of an “insidious” trend. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, he told the Friday Fax that the “overall trend in human rights to single out particular groups for special attention at the expense of other rights and groups” poses a “threat to the overall integ

The Discriminatory ‘Non-Discrimination Act’

Image
Image via Wikipedia Today’s Democratic leadership is a predictable lot. They’ve cornered the market on mass manipulation through semantic tinkering. It’s a relatively easy code to crack. To decipher what Democrats mean versus what they say one need merely apply the “forked-tongue test.” If Dems say “ Fairness Doctrine ,” expect unfairness in spades. When Harry Reid tags Obamacare the “ Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ,” we know that the patient gets hosed, and the “care” breaks the bank. Indeed, if the 111th Congress were to pass the “No Kicking Fuzzy Puppies Act,” bet your Obama tax hike that Nancy Pelosi would be first in line to punt Poochie across the Capitol Rotunda. And so it goes with the characteristically mislabeled  “ Employment Non-Discrimination Act ” or ENDA (S. 1584 in the Senate and H.R. 3017 in the House) . According to its leftist proponents, ENDA – which is under consideration in both houses of Congress – would merely insulate people who choose to engage
