Matthew Vines on Homosexuality and Genesis 2:18

Book of Genesis, Fall of Man. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) "The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." ( Genesis 2:18, NASB ). Mr. Vines says, "In Genesis 2:18, God says, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.' And yes, the suitable helper or partner that God makes for Adam is Eve, a woman. And a woman is a suitable partner for the vast majority of men--for straight men. But for gay men , that isn’t the case. For them, a woman is not a suitable partner. And in all of the ways that a woman is a suitable partner for straight men—for gay men, it’s another gay man who is a suitable partner. And the same is true for lesbian women. For them, it is another lesbian woman who is a suitable partner." Adam's sexual orientation is never an issue in the text, but Mr. Vines inserts his orientation so as to dismiss the obvious teaching about the male and fema

Orthodox leaders urge Ontario gvmt to scrap gay rights bill

TORONTO, Ontario , May 15, 2012  - Leaders of Ontario’s 250,000 Orthodox Christians took aim at bullying in the province’s schools on Monday – starting with the government’s proposed Bill 13, the Accepting School Act. A clergy delegation appeared as witnesses before the Standing Committee on Social Policy at Queen’s Park, charging that the government’s anti-bullying legislation virtually ignores most bullying victims in schools, while at the same time targeting traditional religious groups for censure. “ Statistics Canada data on bullying and violence indicates that bullying against religious groups is more than twice as common as bullying against self-identified gays and lesbians,” noted Father Geoffrey Korz, Orthodox Dean of Ontario and chief presented to the Queen’s Park committee. He was joined by Father William Makarenko, former Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada , and supported by Father John Koulouras of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Toronto, a

Image via Wikipedia The U.S. bishops are stepping up their efforts in defense of marriage by making what was an ad hoc committee ‘’for the Defense of Marriage” into a new permanent subcommittee within the Committee on Laity , Marriage, Family Life and Youth.  That United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) subcommittee has released the second of five  videos  for the promotion and protection of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.  Entitled “Made for Life,’ the newly released video features real married couples reflecting on topics related to the gift of children, the indispensible place of fathers and mothers, and sexual difference. “Our culture is one that often forgets the sacred gift of the child, and in so doing it also fails to recognize the vital importance of a mother and a father together for the life and upbringing of that child,” said Bishop Salvatore Cordileone of Oakland, California , chairman of the committee. “The video also addresses a real

Debate over BC schools ‘homophobia’ policy heats up

Image
Image via Wikipedia Debate is heating up over the adoption of a controversial “homophobia/heterosexism” policy in the Burnaby School District of British Columbia .  Concerned parents  say  Draft Policy 5.45 would promote homosexuality to their children and discriminate against those who oppose a homosexual lifestyle. Trustees, on the other hand, maintain the policy merely ensures a safe and caring environment. Parents have also expressed frustration that trustees have not met their demands for transparency on the policy specifics. The  draft policy , approved by the board of trustees February 22, 2011, defines “heterosexism” as a “mistaken assumption” that “all people are heterosexual and that heterosexuality is superior and the norm by which all other sexual orientation and gender identities are measured.”   It says it “perpetuates negative stereotypes and is dangerous to individuals and communities.” (For previous LSN coverage click  here ) Parents and students gather last Tue
