The family of famed child singer Jackie Evancho  are planning to sue their school district because they have separate bathrooms for boys and girls. They are launching the suit on behalf of Jackie's brother Jacob, who believes he is "transgender" and calls himself "Juliet." Gay activist group Lambda Legal of New York City announced it will sue Pine-Richland School District on behalf of the Evancho family for requiring students to use the facilities of their biological gender or a "unisex" bathroom .  The school district passed the separate-gender resolution on September 12 by a 5-4 vote. All across America , parents, teachers and local school districts have been having conversations about how best to accommodate the privacy and safety concerns of transgender students while also addressing the privacy and safety concerns of other students. Solutions were found , such as  the creation of new single-occupancy restrooms and changing facilities  for transgender students while retaining girls and boys rooms for biological girls and boys. But  activists attacked these commonsense compromise policies as “transphobic.”  And now the Obama administration has said that a 1972 law settles all of these issues:  Students are to be treated the same based on their “gender identity ,” regardless of their sex. The Obama Departments of Justice and Education declared that “both federal agencies treat a student’s gender identity as the student’s sex for purposes of enforcing Title IX.” Here are three problems with today's announcement from the Obama administration. 1.

A Virginia school board unanimously approved an ordinance on Friday resisting the Obama administration ’s transgender bathroom edict and requiring students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their biological sex . The ordinance, which immediately took effect, allows public school students in Grayson County, Virginia , to request to use a single-stall facility but prevents them from accessing facilities that don’t correspond with their biological sex. The Obama administration   has threatened   to pull federal funding from schools that do not allow males to access facilities designated for females, like locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms.
