The Toronto Catholic District School Board, after a long and heated debate, voted to adopt four gender terms into its code of conduct: "gender identity," "gender expression," "family status," and "marital status".  The chairman of the board, who supported the 8 to 4 vote, stated that "we need to celebrate our differences and make sure our children from the LGBTQ community and families from the LGBTQ community are supported and welcomed".  This view, however, is contrary to that of the archdiocese, which responded: "We do not accept the view of the human person which underlies this terminology since that view is not compatible with our faith." A pair of pro-LGBT organizations have filed a lawsuit against a decades-old Arizona law that forbids public-school lessons on HIV and AIDS from including messages that endorse or promote homosexuality. The law, enacted in 1991, allows “instruction to kindergarten programs through the twelfth grade on acquired immune deficiency syndrome and the human immunodeficiency virus” and provides guidelines for what such programs must include or avoid. Among those guidelines is a ban on instruction that “Promotes a homosexual life-style,” “Portrays homosexuality as a positive alternative life-style,” or “Suggests that some methods of sex are safe methods of homosexual sex.” Equality Arizona filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against the law on behalf of an anonymous homosexual Tucson student, Tucson.com reports, with assistance from Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. An education researcher has queried the stereotype of the “ bullied ” or “at-risk” homosexual youth, suggesting it is a construction of scientific literature that may be counter-productive. The parents of a kindergartener are suing his former charter school for refusing to teach about transgenderism , which they say violated their son’s rights.  David and Hannah Edwards partnered with an organization called Gender Justice to file a complaint with the city’s Department of Human Rights .  The complaint   alleges that Nova Classical Academy denied their son’s “right to undergo a gender transition in a safe and timely way” and “failed to protect students from gender-based bullying and hostility” by not “conduct[ing] gender education,” allowing families to opt-out of classroom instruction on transgenderism, refusing to inform their son’s classmates of his “preferred” gender pronouns, and not allowing a pro-transgender book to be part of the kindergarteners’ classroom instruction. An academic paid with government money to independently evaluate the controversial Safe Schools Coalition anti-bullying program is the co-chair of a gay and transgender organisation that was promoted in the school material. University of Sydney academic Cristyn Davies is one of the researchers undertaking a $270,000 evaluation of the ­program. She is also the co-chair of Twenty10, a counselling service for young gay and transgender people. Access to the Twenty10 service was promoted on the Safe Schools materials through the All of Us resource. Undercover video recorded at the 2014 Safe Schools Coalition National Symposium has exposed as a lie the claim that the program is about helping students stand up to bullying in schools .
