KRASNAYA POLYANA , Russia , January 20, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that homosexual people are welcome to attend the Sochi Olympics and can "feel safe and free" in Russia during the winter games, but warned them to “leave children in peace.” Homosexuality itself is not a crime in Russia, so gay people can “feel calm, at ease, but leave children in peace, please,” Putin said at a meeting with Olympic volunteers in the mountain village of Krasnaya Polyana, the base outside Sochi for Olympic snow sports, according to  RIA Novosti . "We don't outlaw anything and don't nab anyone. Our law prescribes no responsibility for these kinds of relationships unlike laws in some other countries do,” he said. Vladimir Putin signs bill protecting children from homosexual propaganda

Russian Prime Minster Vladimir Putin yesterday  signed the bill  to outlaw the promotion of homosexuality, “same-sex marriage,” and Gay Pride parades throughout the Russian Federation . The national law reinforces and expands previous regional legislation in St. Petersburg . The law outlaws distributing of information on “non-traditional sexual concepts” to children, describing such actions as attractive, promoting a “distorted understanding of social equality of traditional and non-traditional relations” and being involved in the “unwanted solicitation of information that could provoke interest in such relations.” Those Russians giving children propaganda about homosexuality could be fined up to 5,000 rubles ($152 U.S.). Foreigners could be fined the same amount, held in jail for 15 days and deported. The law will impose stiff fines or prison terms for spreading “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations.” It will effectively outlaw “gay pride” festivals and stop attempts by foreign homosexualist activist groups to normalize their lifestyles or campaign for same-sex legal recognition. MOSCOW , April 2, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Homosexual couples from abroad will not be allowed to adopt Russian children under new rules backed by President Vladimir Putin . The move follows the implementation of  a new law  on January 1 st  preventing adoption of Russian children by American couples. Putin has asked for amendments to be drafted to the current adoption laws by the Ministry of Education and Science and Supreme Court, Izvestia newspaper reports. The draft legislation is expected by July 1 st . Vladimir Putin The move is supported by children’s rights commissioner Pavel Astakhov who recently said he would do all he could to prevent Russian children being adopted by same-sex partners. Commenting on plans by the French Socialist government to institute “gay marriage,” Astakhov said that allowing Russian children to be adopted by homosexuals would be “unconstitutional”.
