Australia needs a referendum on redefining marriage

English: Tony Abbott in 2010. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) September 10, 2013 ( Mercatornet.com ) - Same-sex marriage was a big loser in Australia ’s election over the weekend. Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd sank beneath the waves with his rainbow colours nailed to the mast. Rudd began his campaign to unseat the incumbent PM, Julia Gillard , back in May with a born-again conversion. He promised that he would introduce a bill within 100 days of being re-elected and made gay marriage a centrepiece of his pre-election campaigning. Astonishingly, on the very threshold of electoral annihilation, he gave an interview to The Australian in which he insisted that same-sex marriage was his Christian responsibility. "It was not simply a question about policy but about my fundamental qualifications to be called a Christian,"  he said . Perhaps in Mr Rudd’s inner-city seat of Griffith in Brisbane fervour for same-sex marriage was running high. Perhaps outspoken support was

Christian Politician's unintelligent unbiblical homosexuality argument

Image
A video of Australian Prime Minister , Kevin Rudd , has gone viral, as a Christian pastor asks the Prime Minister, who supports homosexual “marriage” and also identifies as a “devout Christian,” why he doesn’t believe what the Bible says about the sinfulness of homosexuality.  You can hear his response here: There’s a lot to address in his response. Al Mohler has already responded to the Prime Minister’s speech in his September 3 rd  episode of “The Briefing,” which you can (and should) listen to  here . His treatment of this issue starts at around the  14:30  mark. Andrew Courtis provides a a transcript of portions of Mohler’s response  here . But I notice that Mr. Rudd makes a lot of the same arguments that we’ve actually already sought to address here at the Cripplegate (too bad he’s not a reader; we could have cleared all this up ahead of time!). And so I’d like to adapt the answers we’ve given to Rudd’s presentation above, not because I want to pick on him but becaus

Politician gracious to Christian webcast then slaughters Christians on Q&A

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has clashed with a Brisbane pastor over gay marriage. IF there is actually such a thing as the "Christian vote", on Monday night Kevin Rudd lost it. For many, the Prime Minister's spirited defence of same-sex marriage on ABC1's Q&A program was a watershed moment.  Kerryn Phelps hailed it as a "historical moment in Australian politics " and penned a 475-word article of thanks to Rudd. For Phelps and so many other LGBTIQ  voters, this was the "sweetest victory of all". Rodney Croome clapped and was amazed these statement came from a Christian. Yet for so many Christian voters, this was the moment that the sheep's clothing came off the wolf's back. At 7.30pm that Monday, the same night as the ABC broadcast of Q&A, more than 35,000 Christians gathered across 339 churches in every state and territory of Australia to watc

Politician abuses pro-marriage pastor over homosexual marriage

Image
Kevin Rudd (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The Australian Courier Mail is reporting: LABOR won't win another election unless it learns from Kevin Rudd's astonishing performance on Monday's Q&A. Want to understand Labor's fall? Then watch the Prime Minister abuse a pastor for holding an opinion on same-sex marriage which Rudd shared only four months ago. That Rudd also trashed the Bible - holy book of the faith he ostentatiously professes - made him seem even more cynical and unprincipled. What a metaphor for Labor's six years in office. Matt Prater , a New Hope Church pastor and Christian broadcaster, was in the ABC's Q&A audience and asked Rudd about his decision in May to support same-sex marriage. Said Prater: "Most of the listeners and callers we have had in our radio station have been saying they won't be voting for you because . . . you seem to keep chopping and changing your beliefs just to get a popular vote with regards to thin

Christian politician Shameless Homosexual Betrayal on marriage

Image
Mr Rudd's sudden conversion to support homosexualmarriage, on the road to the federal election, is betrayal upon betrayal, according to the Australian Christian Values Institute (ACVI). The newly released Christian Values Checklist shows that Labor, under Mr Rudd, has embraced the Green’smoral decadence and betrayed its working class constituency. A spokesperson for the ACVI and the Christian Values Checklist, John Miller, said, "Mr Rudd has sadly earned the nickname of Judas ." "He has betrayed the institution of marriage that has existed for millennia, he has betrayed the broad Christian lobby who he assiduously romanced in the lead up to the 2007 election, and who helped him to defeat John Howard , he has betrayed the message of the Bible , which he knows well, and he has betrayed the many members of his own caucus who he knows are strongly and conscientiously opposed to same sex marriage." Mr Miller said, “The biblical Judas was quickly remorseful about wha

Faulty bible slavery argument and homosexuality

Image
English: Kevin Rudd, 26th Prime Minister of Australia. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Kevin Rudd was profoundly wrong in his understanding of the Bible . He misquoted the Bible and attributed to the Bible something that Aristotle said (that slavery is a natural condition). The Bible never says that. The Bible sees slavery as the result of fallen and broken relationships in society and it is crystal clear in its condemnation of the slave trade . I was disappointed by Mr Rudd's comments last night in the same way that I was disappointed by the position he announced in May despite, as he said, after much reflection. Unfortunately in my view he has not been reflecting on the teaching of Scripture. To sanction same-sex ' marriage ' is not the teaching of the Anglican Church of Australia nor is it the teaching of the Bible. The Bible views marriage as an institution that God has created. Jesus brings clarity to the nature of marriage by saying that it is an exclusive rela
