It has not been a good week for avowed Marxist and Safe Schools Coalition co-founder Roz Ward who is now under suspension from her university job. She earlier resigned from a Victorian Government committee following the leak of her Facebook post criticising the Australian flag as “racist”. Flyers featuring photos of crying children with slogans such as "I need my mum and dad" are being distributed as part of a campaign against same-sex marriage. The flyers have angered gay radical activist who are outraged that children are being used to spread healthy family views on the eve of the election. However, the lobby group behind the flyers say they are designed to bring children's rights into the same-sex marriage debate. The flyers are circulating in electorates in Queensland , NSW and Victoria and urge people to vote against Liberal, Labor and Independent candidates who support gay marriage. In recent years gay "marriage" has had no realistic chance of being legislated or recognised at a federal level in Australia as both ex-Prime Minister Julia Gillard and opposition leader Tony Abbott were staunchly opposed.  However, on Sunday night during an election debate with second-time Prime Minister Kevin Rudd , everything changed and “marriage equality” is now a high profile election issue. A Galaxy research poll commissioned by Australian Marriage Equality was released today concluded that 53% of Australians who identify as Christians support same-sex marriage, while 41% oppose.    Yet a 2009 Galaxy Poll revealed that 86% of Australians, including those in Labor Party heartland, believe children should be reared by their biological mum and dad wherever possible.   It all depends on how questions are asked, and the Australian Marriage Equality shaped the questions, and defined what a Christian is, a self declaration a person who attends church weekly, a person who adheres to scriptures?  We don't know do we? They would have the option of choosing "parent 1" and "parent 2", instead of mother and father, under a proposal being considered by the Government for its new electronic passport application system. Gay rights groups applauded the potential for gender-neutral forms in Australia , but family groups expressed concern.
