New research published in the Journal of Adolescent Health by scholars at the University of Texas purports to show that the more transgender youth are called by their preferred name in society, it lowers their risk of suicide and depression. However, a top pediatrician denounced the research as "meaningless" and leading to "false" conclusions. "Do not be fooled. This recent study, like all trans youth studies before it, is political agenda masquerading as science," Dr. Michelle Cretella, president of the American College of Pediatricians , which publicly opposes gender transition procedures and treatments for children, told The Christian Post . Recent developments in America's courts and legislatures have brought home a reality that I discussed in this space last summer:  Transgender activists seek to undermine parental rights . Transgenderism is part of a  movement  that is hostile to traditional family life. The traditional family is based on the idea that the needs of children are supplied by parents with rights and responsibilities to meet those needs. While the state can interfere in cases of abuse or neglect, generally protecting parents' freedom is the best way to ensure that children are well provided for. Wherever the state deals with children, such as in schools or in foster care , there are bound to be conflicts between parents and the state. Education Secretary   Betsy DeVos  has been abused by LGBT rights advocates for refusing to protect  transgender students denied access to bathrooms and lockers based on their gender identity . LGBT people believe they have toilet rights. During a House Appropriations subcommittee meeting on Tuesday, Republican representative Mark Pocan asked DeVos how the Education Department planned to respond to complaints put forward by trangender students regarding this issue. Transgenerderism is a mental health problem - not to be celebrated but to be treated. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order last week banning the state from awarding jobs to contractors who do not specify transgenders and homosexuals as a special protected class. The  New York Daily News  gossip column reported a girl was making the rounds in Manhattan clubs who admitted to being a man in 1965. She had undergone a sex-change operation in Baltimore at the Johns Hopkins gender clinic. By 1979, thirteen years later, enough gender surgeries had been performed to evaluate the results.
