A Gay Writer Who Forgot Almost Everything Jesus Said

Image
The statement was so remarkable I had to read it several times before I was sure my eyes were not deceiving me. It turns out the author meant exactly what he wrote, namely that, “Only once in the recorded life of Jesus does he lay upon the human a requirement.” Yes, this is the stated opinion of Jonathan, writing on Medium. He quotes the words of Jesus, in John 13:34, “I give you a new commandment, to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” And he notes that Jesus reaffirmed this in John 15:12: “My commandment is this — to love one another just as I have loved you.” Writes Jonathan, “The ‘commandment’ is singular. That means there’s one.” He finds affirmation for this position in the writings of Paul (Galatians 5:6) and John (1 John 3:11, 3:23, 4:7, 4:11, 4:12; cf. 2 Jn 6), adding his own (quite bizarre) interpretations to a number of biblical texts along the way. His thesis, described in the title and subtitle of his article (which i

Jeffrey McCall: From Transgender to Transformed by God

Image
In major cities across the country, Jeffrey McCall organizes freedom marches.  These events feature men and women who have  left the LBGT life . One of the speakers is McCall himself, who struggled with homosexuality and drugs until the age of 23 when he decided he was in the wrong body and began living as a woman named "Scarlett." As Scarlett, he began drinking heavily and prostituting his body. During those two years, he was secretly watching Jentezen Franklin's sermons on YouTube. Jeffrey surrendered to God soon after hearing God tell him "You will live for me." "I started struggling with same-sex attraction around twelve, and around fifteen years old I acted on it, "McCall told  CBN .  McCall always wanted love. But over the years his sexual encounters left him feeling empty and used. "So, from 18 to 23, I lived in Nashville, Tennessee.  And in those years, my whole identity was in being homosexual," he said. "I just pa

‘Jesus Never Mentioned Homosexuality!’ Why Not?

Image
“Jesus never mentioned homosexuality!” That often-heard statement is one of the quickest and most common excuses people give for approving homosexual practice. Does it hold any weight biblically, though? And if it is true that Jesus never mentioned it, does that really justify such behavior? The answer is “no” to both questions. Here’s why. He Didn’t Need to Say It For It To Be True Jesus didn’t mention any number of sins. For example, He never mentioned child sexual abuse or wife beating. Does that mean He was okay with them? Jesus didn’t need to comment on such behavior. In the first century Judaism, there was no debate about its sinfulness. He would have been preaching to the choir. The “Jesus never mentioned it” argument assumes that only the words of Jesus are divinely inspired. It’s a “biblical” argument that ignores the rest of the Bible. It also ignores Jesus’ own witness to the divine origin of Scripture ( Mark 12:35-36 ). Most of what Jesus said wasn’t even recorded in

Would Jesus bake a gay cake?

Image
The Supreme Court’s  recent decision  in the  Masterpiece Cakeshop Case  held that a government cannot punish a baker for refusing to make a cake for a same-sex marriage ceremony if that government has also shown hostility toward the baker’s religion. While hardly a resounding defence of the Christian’s right to both own a business and not celebrate sin, I suppose that it was better than finding  against  the baker. This kind of case demonstrates the ever-increasing tension for Christians to decide if they are going to accommodate the public’s desire to embrace the LGBTQ movement or not.  Refusing to cater to gay weddings gives rise to charges of discrimination—never mind the fact that these same bakers regularly served gay customers. They only objected to doing something that would affirm same-sex “marriage” contrary to their conscience.  This is why  Justice Kennedy , who voted in favour of same-sex marriage, stated in the recent ruling that, “creating a wedding cak

I Left Same-Sex Romance for Love

Image
Author: Rachel Gilson. It’s easy for people to misunderstand why I left a life of romantic and sexual relationships with women. They string the list of renunciations together like a necklace — no to a former love, no to former sexual patterns, no to fulfilling unasked-for attractions, no to a way of life — and to some this looks like a type of adornment. To many more, a chafing collar. My life, however, is sustained by a resounding  yes , a yes that is only found in Jesus Christ . Like a diamond that weighs down your hand, that makes you avert your eyes for its rainbow brilliance, coming to know Jesus has continually revealed just how dingy, superficial, and man-made the things were I used to consider a treasure. But God has saved me and shown me that saying yes to Jesus is far better. A Better Authenticity Perhaps nothing carries more cultural cache today than the longing for the authentic, especially in the self. But how can we tell what our authentic self is? The a
