Nine states have laws protecting the rights of religious adoption agencies, the New York Times reports, but a legal fight is “already brewing” in some of those states. The Christian soccer player who bowed out of the U.S. women’s national soccer team  last year  has confirmed it was because her faith conflicted with wearing a jersey celebrating gay “pride.” “I just felt so convicted in my spirit that it wasn't my job to wear this jersey,” the player, Jaelene Hinkle, said in a new interview with the 700 Club. “I gave myself three days to just seek and pray and determine what [God] was asking me to do in this situation.” Hinkle told the 700 Club that she wrestled with her Christian faith – to which she’d first committed at age 12 – and trying to fit in throughout her soccer career and college. The Supreme Court today pushed back against the rising tide of anti-religious sentiments in America, ruling in favour of Colorado baker Jack Phillips. Baker Jack Phillips Wins In a 7-2 decision, the court specifically rebuked the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which had ruled against Phillips when he refused to design a wedding cake for a same-sex “marriage.” As expressed in the majority opinion of Anthony Kennedy, “The Commission’s hostility was inconsistent with the First Amendment’s guarantee that our laws be applied in a manner that is neutral toward religion.” Although the court did not issue a ruling on the wider questions regarding the conflict between religious freedoms and LGBT rights, the ruling was a major step in the right direction. A Mennonite pastor who helped a girl and her birth mother escape the United States to evade her court-imposed lesbian “mother” has been freed after serving almost 24 months in a U.S. federal prison. Kenneth Miller, a pastor with the Beachy Amish Mennonites of Virginia, was convicted in 2013 of having helped Lisa Miller and her daughter Isabella (both unrelated to Kenneth Miller) to flee the United States. They left the country in late 2009 to evade court-imposed visits to Lisa ’s former civil union partner, Janet Jenkins . A pastor of a Detroit -area church along with his family have received death threats, arson threats, and bomb threats from LGBT advocates after advertising a Bible-based workshop for teenage girls struggling with their sexual identity. “A whole bunch of people have come up with this idea that we are offering some sort of conversion-therapy workshop,” Metro City Church Pastor Jeremy Schossau explained on a Feb. 5 YouTube video about the backlash to his church's program titled “ Unashamed Identity .” “As a result of that, we’ve had an unbelievable backlash on social media filled with hate and vulgarity,” Schossau continued. “People have literally threatened to kill me and my family, to burn our house down, to burn our Church down, to assault the people of our Church and our staff,” he said.
