Being gay in an unwelcoming community takes 12 years off your life! This study was heralded broadly by the press with no critical analysis provided for the reader. Not one mainstream journalist stopped to consider, much less challenge, the sweeping grandeur of this claim. It was used as a blunt object to condemn anyone not keen on the mainstreaming of homosexuality. Quite blunt it was. The Safe Schools Coalition of Australia continues to promote a controversial children’s story book,The Gender Fairy, despite its author, Jo Hirst, saying it is not a “Safe Schools” resource. Educational programs have been implemented to teach children good habits early in life, taxes have been levied against foods deemed to be nutritionally lacking, and restrictions have been placed on where and how such foods can be accessed. This is especially true when it comes to the issue of human sexuality . To understand why, we must first remember that, for the Christian, truth is a person: Jesus Christ . We see the world and our place in it in light of the person and work of Jesus. So we should never forget that just as Jesus was the incarnation of God ’s love, mercy, and compassion for us, we are called to model these for our neighbor. Now this doesn’t mean that we should shy from calling sin by its name — on the contrary, sometimes this is exactly what loving our neighbor requires. But we should do this in sorrow rather than in anger and never out of a sense of condemnation — because we know that since none of us is without sin, none of us gets to cast the first stone.
