CW announces lesbian ‘Batwoman’ television series

The CW’s popular lineup of DC Comics superhero shows is getting a new addition that’s all but certain to be the most “social justice”-heavy yet. The superheroine Batwoman (not to be confused with the more well-known Batgirl) is set to be the focus of the new live-action series, the Hollywood Reporter reveals , following her debut in a crossover event for the next seasons of Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. Moreover, the project will lean heavily into one of the defining aspects of the character’s modern incarnation: her sexuality. “[A]rmed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind,” Kate Kane “soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence,” the show’s summary reads. It will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti, the openly-gay overseer of the CW’s current DC shows, and scripted by Caroline Dries of The Vampire Diaries fame. ComicBook.com adds that

Wonder Woman officiates gay ‘marriage’ in new comic- how far down the drain now?

Image
DC Comics (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Comic book superhero   Wonder Woman will officiate a same-sex "wedding" in an upcoming issue.   Jason Badowerhe, Wonder Woman's cartoonist, says it was his idea to make Wonder Woman, as the comic will say, "a proponent of gay marriage." Badowerhe says DC Comics was "fantastic" over the idea.  He told The Sydney Morning Herald that his editor "was like, 'Great! I love it! Let's do it!'" In the comic, Wonder Woman solemizes two women's "marriage."  "By the power vested in me," is replaced with "Bound by the lasso of truth."  At the conclusion of the ceremony, when traditionally the celebrant says, "I now pronounce you husband and wife," Wonder Woman simply says, "I now pronounce you married." An amazed Clark Kent questions Wonder Woman, who says gay "marriage" is no big deal to her, because her home island, Themyscu

NEW YORK CITY , March 11, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews ) – After pro-homosexual activists promoted an online  petition  demanding the firing of award-winning speculative fiction writer Orson Scott Card from an upcoming Superman comic anthology, DC Comics confirmed that Card’s portion of the project has been shelved indefinitely.  Card, who is Mormon, sits on the board of the  National Organization for Marriage  (NOM) and has been outspoken about his opposition to redefining marriage to include same-sex couples.  Orson Scott Card In an opinion piece for the Mormon Times , he wrote, “Marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down.”  In another commentary for  Sunstone Magazine , he wrote, “[G]ay activism as a movement is no longer looking for civil rights, which by and large homosexuals already have. Rather they are seeking to enforce acceptance of their sexual liaisons

The latest trend in comic books—gay superheroes

Image
DC and Marvel, the comic book publishing giants owned by Time-Warner and Disney respectively, have apparently agreed on something: June is Gay Month in the multiverse. First came DC’s unveiling of a gay Green Lantern , which followed a month-long media circus of publicity and speculation. In May, DC had announced that one of its most famous and longstanding superheroes would soon be coming out of the closet . “Could Superman be gay?” headlines blazed. The partnership of Batman and Robin has long been subject to such innuendo—would this be the final unveiling? And of course there’s Wonder Woman, the Amazonian dominatrix no man could beat in an arm wrestle, much less sweep off her feet. As the Hollywood tattler TMZ suggests, DC’s decision to go with the Green Lantern made all the publicity into something of a shell game, since the Green Lantern is more of an intergalactic police corps than an individual, and that there are more than 7200 Green Lanterns on the roster. The Green

NEW YORK, NEW YORK , June 20, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – To celebrate the  X-Men comics’ first depiction of a same-sex “marriage,”  a New York City comic book shop held a real gay “nuptial” ceremony in its store. Midtown Comics hosted the hitching at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning at its store at the corner of Fulton Street and Gold Street. X-Men's same-sex "marriage" inspired the real thing. The store held a contest for the honors, won by Scott Everhart, 39, and Jason Welker, 33, of Columbus, Ohio . The two met online. Everhart said he kept the application secret until he was asked to come in for an interview. “That’s when I broke the news to [Welker] and kind of proposed at the same time,” he said. Thor Parker, social media and events director at Midtown Comics,  said , “They really stood out as super fans.”  The pair flew, by airplane, to the Big Apple, where such “weddings” are now legal. Their reception was provided compliments of Eventi Hotel . Gerr
