Australia: ALP Bill on religious schools and students

Image
LABOR, THE GREEN & LGBT ZEALOTS WANT TO DESTRY CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS AND THE CHURCH IS NEXT Senator Wong (lesbian), leader of the Opposition in the Senate, has introduced a Private Senator’s Bill aimed at removing the power of religious schools to discriminate against same-sex attracted students. Unfortunately, the amendments do much more than stop schools expelling students on the basis of their internal sexual orientation (a goal all sides of politics agree on.) They will have a serious impact on the ability of such schools, and other religious bodies, to operate in accordance with their religious beliefs. A more nuanced approach is needed. Background The background to these proposals can be found in previous blog posts  here ,  here  and  here . In short, the  Sex Discrimination Act  1984 (Cth), s 38(3) , currently allows faith-based “educational institutions” to provide education in accordance with their religious framework, by making it not unlawful for them to take  int

Australia: the Homosexual Marriage Con!

New polling shows the people might vote to preserve the definition of marriage. This is being used as a reason not to have a peoples’ vote. Go figure. Polling which questions public support for changing the definition of marriage in law is now being used as an argument to deny the people a say. Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Lyle Shelton said news today that the Australian Labor Party was using polling which showed a lack of public support for changing the Marriage Act to undermine the plebiscite was extraordinary . Asked on morning television about the polling , the Prime Minister said it was ‘anti-democratic’ and that it ‘destroyed the credibility of the argument’ against conducting a peoples’ vote. “The Prime Minister is right to call this out,” Mr Shelton said. “It is disappointing that those advocating such a big change don’t trust the people to have their say.” Mr Shelton said the Parliament has rejected changing the Marriage Act on at least 17 occasions, inclu

Australian Green Party want to jail Christian pastors who don’t perform gay marriages

Australian Church leaders have put religious freedom on the agenda, speaking out against a Greens plan to scrap longstanding safeguards in the nation’s anti-discrimination laws, while Labor hedges on the issue. Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders are objecting to the Greens plan to remove the religious exemptions, saying it could force people to act against their faith. The dispute is being shaped by debate over same-sex marriage as church groups seek assurances they will not be forced to conduct ceremonies that conflict with their beliefs. The government has promised a plebiscite and Labor has promised a conscience vote on marriage equality. The Greens risk losing support among religious and community groups worried the legislation will erode their religious rights, amid mixed signals from Labor as to whether it might back the changes. “The Greens are pandering to niche politics,’’ said Keysar Trad , the treasurer of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils . “This is

Australia: Labor and Senator Wong are wrong: there is much to fear from “marriage equality”

Image
Official 2005 photo of Chief Justice John G. Roberts (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) “Senator Wong was wrong in her declaration to the Labor national conference that ‘there is nothing to fear from equality’”, said Dr David van Gend, President of the Australian Marriage Forum. “There is always something to fear when the self-interest of the powerful crushes the rights of the weak, and that is what so-called “marriage equality” does. “ Marriage equality ” is a selfish adult-centred movement that tramples on the rights and needs of the child, and that is an abuse of power: · In the name of adult “equality” it destroys the rights of children to have both a mother and a father in their life - which is a profound injustice. · In the name of “equal love” between two men it destroys the more primal love between a mother and baby – and that is an unloving act. · In the name of “ anti-discrimination ” it discriminates against certain children who will be denied their biolog

Every Homosexual act in unnatural

The Bible says nothing specifically about the homosexual condition (despite the rather misleading RSV translation of 1 Cor. 6:9), but its condemnations of homosexual conduct are explicit. The scope of these strictures must, however, be carefully determined. Too often they have been used as tools of a homophobic polemic which has claimed too much. The exegesis of the Sodom and Gibeah stories (Gn. 19:1–25; Jdg. 19:13–20:48) is a good case in point. We must resist D. S. Bailey’s widely-quoted claim that the sin God punished on these occasions was a breach of hospitality etiquette without sexual overtones (it fails to explain adequately both the double usage of the word ‘know’ (yāḏa‘) and the reason behind the substitutionary offer of Lot’s daughters and the Levite’s concubine); but neither account amounts to a wholesale condemnation of all homosexual acts . Metropolitan Community Church and Freedom2b have used Bailey to fully justify their immoral position seeking to make it righteous b

Family First Charity loses status because of its position on Homosexuality

Charities Commission (New Zealand) (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The Green Party is calling for a public debate about how charities are defined after a decision to remove Family First 's charitable status . The Charities Registration Board has ruled that Family First's main purpose is political, rather than charitable, and that it will lose its charitable status unless it appeals to the High Court by May 27. Family First director Bob McCoskrie said the organisation was being penalised for its leading role in the campaign against legalising gay marriage, which was passed by Parliament on April 17. "This is a highly politicised decision which is grim evidence that groups that think differently to the prevailing politically correct view will be targeted in an attempt to shut them up," he said. Ironically, the Greens, whose MPs voted unanimously in support of gay marriage, were the only party to speak up for Family First yesterday. Green MP Denise Roche , wh
