Ottawa mayor to pro-family citizens: ‘I don’t want your vote’

OTTAWA, February 11, 2014  – The mayor of Ottawa has defended the city as it joins other Canadian municipalities in raising a rainbow flag at city hall during the Olympics in Sochi to protest Russia ’s ban on homosexual propaganda. Mayor Jim Watson is facing criticism because of an exchange with one of his critics on Twitter . The critic criticized the flag, writing, “This is a stupid waste of time. You’ve lost my vote.” Mayor Jim Watson sprays the crowd with a water gun at the 2013 Pride parade in Ottawa . The mayor responded to this, “If you have that point of view, I really don’t want your vote.” The comment has a national pro-family leader up in arms. Mayor Jim Watson playfully sprayed the crowd with a water gun from his perch on the float of Ottawa Public Health as representatives of the agency dispensed the condoms. The float, bearing the slogan “Sex it Smart,” is part of a  campaign  by Ottawa Public Health that aims to distribute 2,376,000 free condoms in the next three years to city youth as young as 15.
