The Canadian Teachers Federation honored a Manitoba teacher last month for promoting acceptance of homosexuality in his grade 5 classroom despite opposition from parents . Peter Wohlgemut, who teaches at West Park School in the predominantly Mennonite community of Altona, faced backlash after displaying a card in his classroom proclaiming himself an “ally.” "Peter Wohlgemut is a role model for all educators in Canada to stand up in the face of hate mongering and be the public face for progressive change in public education," the Canadian Teachers Federation states in the brochure for its annual general meeting on July 9-11, where they gave him a Special Recognition Award. According to the CTF , Wohlgemut participated in a training session at the Rainbow Resource Centre in Winnipeg and upon finishing the course was given an "ally" training certificate which he put up in his classroom. The card features a rainbow and the words “As an Ally, I support lesbia

Similar  legislation  is currently in the federal senate, but has only been voted on by the the human rights committee, which was 9-1 in favour of it. This type of legislation, dubbed the “bathroom bill”, has been  opposed  by many family organizations because of the potential outcome

Students face ‘consequences’ for defying pro-homosexual ‘code of conduct’ pure tyranny

In a bid to become Canada ’s most LGBTQ-influenced school system, Manitoba ’s NDP Ministry of Education has announced development of a new “provincial code of conduct” — added on top of its proposed anti-bullying legislation — that critics say will effectively silence any student voice dissenting from the gay agenda. "What this means for gay students is when they are bullied, there will be very clear consequences," Manitoba Education Minister Nancy Allan told Xtra. "Everybody in the school will know what the consequences are.” “Bullying of any student for any reason is categorically wrong,” said Jack Fonseca, spokesman for Campaign Life Coalition , to LifeSiteNews.com. “If this code was sincerely about anti-bullying, we’d applaud it. However, the code’s singular preoccupation with homosexuality broadcasts its true intent, which is to provide a weapon with which gay-activists can smear and silence bible-believing students, teachers, and parents.” Fonseca said that only

Manitoba Teachers’ Society votes to infuse ‘LGBTQ’ issues throughout provincial curricula

Image
The Manitoba Teachers’ Society ( MTS ) passed a resolution on Saturday to lobby the provincial government to revamp its entire spectrum of existing curricula to include “ LGBTQ ” (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) issues, people, and values. About 90 percent of 290 delegates to MTS’s Annual General Meeting — representing 15,000 public school teachers — voted in favor of the resolution,  according  to MTS President Paul Olson. If the resolution is adopted, the government would require all schools receiving public funding, both public and private, to follow the reengineered curricula.  The new curricula must “explicitly speak to sensitive issues being addressed in the classroom” if it is to be an “aid in creating inclusive learning environments for all students and teachers,”  according  to an MTP press release.  For example, a math problem in the revised curricula “might include a mother and father, but can also include a single parent or parents of the same

Religious leaders, politicians, principals unite against Manitoba’s ‘anti-bullying’ Bill 18

MANITOBA, March 20, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A growing number of Manitoba politicians and religious leaders have added their voice to the escalating clamor against the NDP’s proposed Bill 18, saying that it would force faith-based schools to hand over their cherished freedoms to agenda-driven government bureaucrats. Winnipeg Conservative MP Rod Bruinooge (Winnipeg South) came out in opposition to the bill last week after drawing attention to a number of letters written to NDP Premier Greg Selinger by concerned religious groups from around the province.  Member of Parliament Rod Bruinooge "I think they have valid concerns and I support them," said Bruinooge to reporters.  Rabbi Avrohom Altein, director of Winnipeg’s Jewish Learning Centre,  wrote to Selinger  that the bill’s requirement that gay-straight alliances be accommodated in every school “is based on a mistaken premise that will only serve to undermine the very principles of equality that it seeks to

OTTAWA, March 11, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - The Manitoba NDP government's proposed anti-bullying law, Bill 18, which would force all schools in the province to accommodate homosexual student clubs, is “unconstitutional,” according to Honourable Vic Toews , Regional Minister for Manitoba and Member of Parliament for Provencher . Toews also serves as the federal Minister of Public Safety . Vic Toews "Recently there has been a significant amount of discussion surrounding Provincial Bill 18 and its implications for education and religious freedom," Toews said in a statement sent to LifeSiteNews.  "While this is exclusively a provincial matter and therefore I cannot take any legislative or other official action in respect to provincial legislation, I certainly do not support Bill 18."  Toews is the federal representative for the city of Steinbach, where more than 1,200 people gathered at Steinbach Christian High School recently to express their c

Anti-bullying School program violates Religious freedom

WINNIPEG , March 1, 2013, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Controversy is escalating over the Manitoba NDP government's proposed anti- bullying law, which would force schools - including independent religious schools - to accommodate homosexual student clubs under the name gay-straight alliance ( GSA ). The  Public Schools Amendment Act (Safe and Inclusive Schools)  stipulates that schools "must accommodate pupils who want to establish and lead activities and organizations that use the name 'gay-straight alliance' or any other name that is consistent with the promotion of a positive school environment that is inclusive and accepting of all pupils." Independent religious schools in the province contend that Bill 18 is a violation of their religious freedom, while the NDP education minister said the personal rights of students take precedence over religious freedom.
