A street preacher has been awarded £4,250 in damages after a judge ruled it was wrong of police to arrest and handcuff him after he spoke out against homosexuality. Anthony Rollins, who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome , was preaching in Birmingham city centre in June 2008 when a member of the public, John Edwards, took offence at comments he made describing homosexual conduct as morally wrong. According to the Christian Institute , which backed Mr Rollins’ case, police arrived on the scene after receiving a call from Mr Edwards and PC Adrian Bill proceeded to handcuff Mr Rollins without any further inquiry. Birmingham County Court ruled on Wednesday that PC Bill had committed assault and battery against Mr Rollins by handcuffing him unnecessarily. Judge Lance Ashworth QC said in his ruling on Wednesday that the arrest demonstrated a “lack of thoughtfulness”. For the second time in a year, the Legislative Assembly of Northern Ireland has rejected attempts to install “gay marriage” in the province, in a vote of 53 to 42. A similar motion was defeated by 50 votes to 45  last October . Mike Judge, communications director for the Christian Institute said the motion was introduced by Sinn Fein following a decision by the Republic of Ireland to have a referendum on redefining marriage. Susanne Wilkinson, who owns the Swiss B &B in Cookham , Berkshire, has been ordered to pay compensation for “injury to feelings” to two men she turned away, because she rents rooms in her family-owned business only to married couples . Last January, homosexual couple Michael Black, 63, and John Morgan, 58,  sued Mrs. Wilkinson for discrimination  after she informed the two men that “it is against my convictions for two men to share a bed.” She added, “This is my private home.” Mrs. Wilkinson returned their deposit and asked them, politely, to leave. Britain’s coalition government is aiming to legalize same-sex “marriage” before the next federal election in 2015, announced Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone on Saturday.  The move comes after the “personal intervention” of Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron , reports the U.K.’s Daily Mail. The decision to push for homosexual "marriage" reportedly comes after the "personal intervention" of UK Prime Minister David Cameron. “I believe that to deny one group of people the same opportunities offered to another is not only discrimination, but is not fair,” said Featherstone.  The government will begin formal consultations on the issue in March. Peter and Hazelmary Bull, who run the Chymorvah Private Hotel from their home, were  taken to court  by Martyn Hall and his civil partner Steven Preddy. The pair had booked a room with the guesthouse as ‘Mr. and Mrs. Preddy’ but were turned away when they arrived and revealed they were a homosexual couple.  Following the December 2010 court ruling by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), the Bulls were fined £3,600. BIRMINGHAM, December 14, 2010 – West Midlands police have been ordered by a court to pay an Evangelical street preacher from Birmingham who preached that homosexuality is immoral over £4000 plus legal expenses for wrongful arrest and imprisonment. Anthony Rollins, a Christian preacher who suffers from autism, was arrested while he was preaching in Birmingham city centre . Rollins was charged with a breach of Section 5 of the Public Order Act, a statute that has come under criticism for restricting freedom of speech. The court heard that on June 24, Rollins was preaching using the King James Bible and expressed his Christian belief that homosexual conduct is morally wrong. The Christian Institute , which represented Mr. Rollins, reports that a member of the public, John Edwards, objected to the message, shouting “homophobic bigot” before calling 999 and asking for the police.
