Famed fashion designer Stefano Gabbana: ‘Don’t call me gay’

Image
Stefano Gabbana is one half of Dolce and Gabbana , the iconic Italian fashion team that has enjoyed enormous worldwide success since its founding in 1984. Together with business partner (and former homosexual relationship partner) Domenico Dolce , Gabbana made headlines in 2015 when the duo suggested in an interview published in Italy ’s  Panorama  magazine that children born to gay couples through intense, highly technological medical interventions are “synthetic children.” Now Gabbana has made headlines around the world on his own.   “I don't want to be called gay, because I'm simply a man ... full stop,” said the world famous fashion designer, according to  AFP/France24 .   “The word ‘gay’ was invented by those who need to label people, and I don't want to be identified by my sexual choices,” he continued. Up until now he has always proudly identified as gay. Gabbana said he previously thought he “could help spread a new culture as a famous person, a

Neil Gorsuch’s philosophical mentor cites “natural law” to reject homosexual marriage

Image
President Donald Trump ’s Supreme Court nominee is a gift to conservatives: Neil Gorsuch has a history of defending religious liberties and has written extensively on the value of human life with regards to euthanasia . But, while Gorsuch’s judicial history has been extensively discussed, it’s also worth examining his intellectual influences. A Harvard Law School graduate, Gorsuch was later mentored as a Marshall Scholar at Oxford University by the moral and legal philosopher John Finnis , one of the great contemporary natural law theorists. First, a brief explanation of natural law. (For a more detailed and nuanced summary, the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a great place to start.) There is a millennia-old debate, with many different tweaks and interpretations, about whether law is “natural” or “positive.” Legal positivism argues that the law is socially constructed: Legislators create a law, apply it to a particular society, and lo, a law is formed. Those who beli

Even gay advocates are criticizing Ontario’s plan to change the definition of ‘parent’

Image
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s plan to change the legal definition of “parent” to recognize homosexual couples could harm their IVF-conceived children, warns a trio of child advocates. Wynne announced   at the end of May   that the Liberals will introduce legislation in the fall to ensure “equal treatment of LGBTQ-plus families,” including changing regulations for birth certificates. But in doing so, the premier must also ensure that children of same-sex couples, “obviously” conceived through IVF, can find information on their “progenitors” — the donors of the egg or sperm that brought them into existence, point out Julie Guichon, Barry Stevens and Diane Allen in a June 6 commentary in the   Globe and Mail . Otherwise, the government will be putting the rights of LGBTQ parents before those of their children, asserted Guichon, assistant professor at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine, Stevens, a filmmaker conceived through an anonymous sperm donation, and

A pivotal time for marriage

Image
Every poll reveals that Americans are gradually shifting away from an understanding of marriage as being a lifelong union of one man and one woman, to one in which marriage is defined only by the whims of its participants. If we are going to safeguard the future of marriage – as defined by God and supported by Natural Law – and secure the healthiest environment for children to grow up, we cannot rely on our political leaders or the secular media to speak the truth about marriage and its importance. On June 19, thousands of Americans from various religions, races and political parties participated in the 2nd annual March for Marriage in Washington, D.C. Participants and speakers called upon the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government to protect traditional marriage. As we reported shortly after the March, the opposition was much lighter this year, which made it a more peaceful event. The reason we’re even having a conversation that ten years ago everyone said

On homosexuality, the ‘yuck factor’ is not enough

Image
In our increasingly superficial culture, many moral decisions are made based on surface appearances, emotional reactions to those appearances, and an alarming lack of intellectual or volitional activity to check those emotional reactions. This has serious ramifications for all of us, who want to evangelize the larger society of which we are a part. Whereas many of the issues we might consider as specimens of this would be on the “left” side of the cultural divide — abortion, contraception, divorce, etc. — I will focus on only one issue, and keep myself to censuring those on the “right” side of that divide. (And the word “right” has a double meaning here.) The issue is homosexuality. I am taking issue with those who are fundamentally correct in opposing the vice, but inadequately rooted in their principles and therefore unreliable in their actions. The sin of Sodom is a grave matter, which means that to commit it is a sin, i.e., something so heinous that one instance of it a

Pope: True peace in the world requires end of abortion and gay 'marriage'

Image
ROME, December 14, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com )—“ Peacemakers are those who love, defend and promote life in its fullness,” said Pope Benedict XVI in his Message for World Day of Peace 2013. In the message, which was  released today , the pope noted that “serious harm to justice and peace” comes from denying the true principles of respect for life and promotion of the “natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.” Pope Benedict XVI, boldly stressed that pro-lifers are the ‘true peacemakers’ and that those who would support abortion promote a “false peace.” The path to the attainment of the common good and to peace is above all that of respect for human life in all its many aspects, beginning with its conception, through its development and up to its natural end. True peacemakers, then, are those who love, defend and promote human life in all its dimensions, personal, communitarian and transcendent. Life in its fullness is the height of peace. Anyone wh

The problem with Gay Marriage

Image
Image via Wikipedia 1. It Is Not Marriage Calling something marriage does not make it marriage. Marriage has always been a covenant between a man and a woman which is by its nature ordered toward the procreation and education of children and the unity and wellbeing of the spouses . The promoters of same-sex “marriage” propose something entirely different. They propose the union between two men or two women. This denies the self-evident biological, physiological, and psychological differences between men and women which find their complementarity in marriage. It also denies the specific primary purpose of marriage: the perpetuation of the human race and the raising of children . Two entirely different things cannot be considered the same thing. 2. It Violates Natural Law Marriage is not just any relationship between human beings. It is a relationship rooted in human nature and thus governed by natural law . Natural law’s most elementary precept is that “good is to be done

Australian Labor party must reject Homosexual marriage as it goes aganst biological design

Image
Image via Wikipedia The idea that gay marriage is wrong because gay couples are somehow unnatural is not often stated openly, but this premise influences other arguments and lies behind many people’s negative opinions about homosexuality in general.  For most people, heterosexual relationships are the norm, both in society and in nature. Homosexual relationships are thus abnormal and unnatural ; therefore, they shouldn’t be validated or recognized, by the Federal Government of Australian or the Australian Labor party as a form of marriage. Such arguments are very effective because they harness the power of apparently neutral and objective categories like “nature” and “natural” in support of one’s position. In this manner a person can dismiss accusations of bigotry and intolerance because, it’s just a matter of factual observation as to what is and is not a proper part of the natural order and/or what is mandated by natural law even evolution itself. For example, from a biologic
