Weak Christian responses to the Homosexual Agenda

Image
Russell Moore 's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission has posted a flawed "Evangelical Declaration on Marriage" entitled " Here We Stand ." While I appreciate the effort at getting evangelical leaders to declare affirmation of a male-female requirement for marriage, I think that every evangelical leader who signed this (and there are already quite a few) signed a statement that errs at some points and gives the wrong advice at others. This is not an attack on those who have already signed the document. Doubtless, many signed simply because it does contain a number of good statements. For example, the first paragraph states, "We will not capitulate on marriage because biblical authority requires that we cannot"; and the second paragraph affirms strongly Jesus' own affirmation of marriage as a male-female union. Nor should my comments be construed as a personal attack on any formulators of the statement or an accusation of doctrinal heresy. Ho

Homosexual Practice as a Religious Rather than Moral Offense

Image
Orthodox Rabbi Shmuley Boteach makes a bad case on this video for regarding homosexual practice as a purely religious offense rather than a moral one. Of course, to assert as I will do here that homosexual practice is a moral offense is not to deny that it is also a religious offense.   Every moral sin is at one and the same time an offense against the Creator. Take the seventh commandment, the prohibition against adultery, which Rabbi Boteach classifies as a moral rather than religious commandment since it belongs to the second half of the Decalogue . Yet David acknowledges to God in his adultery against Bathsheba: "Against you, you alone, have I sinned" (Ps 51:4). Rabbi Boteach's problem is not that he characterizes the prohibition of homosexual practice as religious but that he does so to the exclusion of it being a moral offense. Here are six problems with his position : (1) In the Levitical chapters on sex laws (18 and 20), the prohibition of homosexual prac

For Homosexuals - Repentance, change, and hope are possible.

Obedience to the Word of God is required of all persons and is the delighted, privileged employment of those who bear the name of the Lord. Though obedience offers great benefit to those who know it, it is not merely an option.  Since we are chiefly dealing with the same-sex controversy as it pertains to the church, the only issue before us now is one of obedience: will God’s Word be obeyed, or will it be twisted to defend a cherished “sexual preference”? Though many good reasons exist for you to forsake homosexual practices, we urge you to forsake them for the main reason: they are displeasing to God.  Repentance is the only option before you .  Despite the arguments that exist to the contrary, homosexuality is not natural, is not approved by the Word of God, and is a practice that leads to death. The Bible clearly teaches that homosexuality, whether in interest or practice, is sin. We deny that recognizing something as sinful when God has declared it sinful is ther

The problem with homosexuality - Double lives and lying to Christians

Image
While Ms. Beattie enjoyed her job, she knew being a lesbian didn't exactly fit the religious ethos of her workplace. She also knew that the longer she stayed, the harder it would get. She also lied on her application. The turning point came soon after she became pregnant through IVF with her lesbian partner. Sadly, she miscarried ; that's when she decided it was time to leave. So instead of repenting of her sin and deception and seeking grace from her Christian employer instead she chose to continue to live her immoral lifestyle and leave.  "I couldn't turn to anyone because I knew there would be questions: What support did I have at home? Do I have a husband? That's when I realised I couldn't conceal it anymore. The whole thing really ground me down, actually. It's hard to go to work and not be able to talk about your partner, or what you're doing on the weekends. I'm a very open person, so I was embarrassed telling my friends I had to li

You know what’s ‘anti-gay’? Refusing to proclaim the fullness of the Gospel

Image
The horrible massacre that occurred in Orlando over the weekend has shaken the United States.  Faith leaders and those on both sides of the political aisle have come together to condemn the attack, mourn the precious lives that were unjustly ended, and seek to create a world in which this kind of unspeakable tragedy isn’t able to happen. While numerous commentators have also seized on the event to advance the gay political agenda and target Christians who oppose that agenda, perhaps the most curious reactions to the attack have come from several Catholic bishops. These bishops have used this terrorist attack to decry “anti-gay prejudice” within the Catholic Church and, and one even   claimed that Catholicism “breeds contempt”   for those with same-sex attractions and gender confusion. Shockingly, St. Petersburg, Florida Bishop Robert Lynch   claimed that Catholics   were partly responsible for the terrorist attack. “Sadly it is religion, including our own, which targets, mo

Homosexuality argument: Isn't demanding adherence to traditional marriage inconsistent with the history of the church?

Image
Our affirmation that a traditional understanding of marriage  essential to Christian orthodoxy is only inconsistent with the historyof the church in that a traditional understanding of marriage has never been challenged in the way it is today.  History testifies that heresy precedes orthodoxy in formal assertion. Every ancient creed was written in response to heretical teachings. In other words, theological controversies forced the church to state clearly its convictions on pressing issues. Thus, the fact that marriage was never addressed by any of the ancient creeds or confessions demonstrates that it never needed to be addressed because it was never a matter of controversy. Creeds are contextual documents-theological responses to sub-orthodox teachings situated in a specific time and context. Errors are not corrected until after they arise. That no one ever questioned the biblical and traditional understanding of marriage as the covenant union of a man and a woman explains

The liberal theology that emerged from the nineteenth century and still plagues the church even today was not only influenced by the radical immanentism of Hegel and the radical subjectivism of Schleiermacher . Naturalism , a view that holds nothing exists except the physical universe, also had a profound impact on liberalism. The result was a crop of liberal theologians who did not believe in the miraculous. Some of them even denied the existence of the personal God altogether. These men tried to explain away the many supernatural references in the Gospels , viewing the miracles purely in materialistic terms. The feeding of the five thousand, for example, was not a supernatural multiplication of a few loaves and fishes. Instead, Jesus was able

The false promise and perversion of homosexuality

Forgiveness for the sin of homosexuality

Our Father can free those in bondage to homosexuality just as He frees other sinners. We must love those enslaved to homosexuality and seek their redemption. True love in this case involves calling homosexual behavior a sin. We may be ostracized when we do this, bu
