‘Christians are Nazis’: Australian churches vandalized as same-sex ‘marriage’ vote nears

Image
“Crucify ‘No’ Voters,” “Bash Bigots,” “Christians are Nazis,” “Vote Yes.” Messages of violence against Christians or anyone who votes “No” in a national referendum about homosexuality and marriage in Australia is sprayed all over churches and buildings as the country nears the vote tally. “We all woke up to see the awful vandalization of our church,” Waverly Baptist Pastor David O’Brien, whose surburban Melbourne church was sprayed with “Crucify ‘No’ Voters,”  said . “It’s disappointing to see these things and it was a shock to all of us.” Australia’s same-sex “marriage” referendum, a simple mail-in survey with no legal authority, began last month and must be sent in by 6 p.m. November 7. The total tally will be made public November 15. The national debate over same-sex “marriage” has been marred by hate speech, both from individual haters of gays and by homosexual activists who seek to intimidate and instill fear enough to sway the vote their way. The violence is not

Why did the Alliance of Baptists Affirm Same-Sex Marriage?

Image
Supporters of same-sex marriage have been aided in their quest to normalize homosexuality by a constellation of liberal religious groups–including some of the historic Christian denominations . These groups now serve as theological enablers for the homosexual movement’s rejection of Christian morality . The latest group to join this parade is the Alliance of Baptists , a denomination that consists of 115 congregations, united mainly by the fact that they are no longer part of the Southern Baptist Convention . The Alliance was born out of the Southern Baptist Convention’s controversy of the 1980s, and it first functioned as a protest movement against the conservative leadership of the SBC. Since its establishment in 1987, the Alliance has gone on to establish itself firmly on the left wing of American Protestant liberalism. Meeting recently in Dayton, Ohio for its 2004 convocation, the Alliance of Baptists adopted a “Statement on Same Sex Marriage ,” that demands legalization and

Christians who back gay ‘marriage’ tend to accept other sexual sins: researcher

English: Another version of the same-sex marriage map. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A well-known sociological researcher has analyzed a massive study of American attitudes on culture and relationships and found that churchgoing Christians who say they support legalized same-sex “marriage” are more likely to support abortion, pornography, premarital sex , marital infidelity, and divorce as well. In light of the increasing number of mainline Protestant denominations choosing to ordain homosexual clergy and give their blessings to same-sex unions, Austin Institute sociologist Mark Regnerus wanted to know: “What is the sexual and relational morality of Christians who accept the moral legitimacy of same-sex marriages . … What exactly do pro-same-sex-marriage Christians think about sex and relationships in general?” Using data from the Austin Institute’s “ Relationships in America ” study, Regnerus analyzed regular churchgoers, defined as those who reported attending religi

UK Methodists begin consultation on conducting same-sex ‘marriages’

Image
The Methodist Church in the UK is undertaking a consultation of its members about whether the church should become the first Christian denomination in Britain to offer church “weddings” to same-sex couples. Members of the approximately 5,000 Methodist congregations across Britain have been given until February 10, 2014 to express their views on same-sex "marriage," when the results of the consultation will be assessed by the Methodist Conference, the church’s policy-making body. The church could become the first Christian denomination in Britain to offer church “weddings” to same-sex couples. The Methodist Church currently defines marriage as a “gift of God” that is “a lifelong union in body, mind and spirit of one man and one woman.”  However, the Methodist Conference has  stated  that this definition is now "at odds" with the terms of the UK's Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act, which comes into force next year.  In July the Methodist Conference set

United Church elects Canada’s first openly gay leader of a major Christian denomination

OTTAWA, August 23, 2012  - An openly homosexual United Church minister from Vancouver was elected as the 41st moderator of the United Church of Canada at the Protestant denomination’s General Council meeting held at Ottawa’s Carleton University last week. Rev. Gary Paterson of St Andrew’s-Wesley United Church in downtown Vancouver was elected from a field of 15 nominees on August 16 to become the first openly homosexual leader of a major Christian denomination in Canada . Paterson was one of three openly homosexual candidates for the moderator’s job, which according to the  Ottawa Citizen  carries a salary of between $119,000 and $135,000 a year. Paterson succeeds the current moderator, Mardi Tindal . At a news conference following his election, Paterson acknowledged that his open homosexuality and same-sex “marriage” to Rev Tim Stevenson , another United Church minister, as well as the fact that he has three daughters from his first marriage, would be seen by many t

Following Jesus While Rejecting the Bible on Homosexuality?

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Yet another denomination has voted to ordain openly homosexual candidates to its ministry. Yesterday, the Presbyterian Church (USA) presbytery of the Twin Cities in Minnesota voted to approve a change to the church’s constitution that will allow the denomination’s 173 presbyteries to ordain persons without regard to sexual orientation. The Twin Cities presbytery cast the deciding vote in what is now a 33-year effort to remove all restrictions on homosexuals serving in the church’s ordained ministry . It became the 87th presbytery to affirm the action of the church’s 219th assembly last summer authorizing the constitutional change. The action not only concludes over three decades of controversy over the ordination standards; it also reverses actions taken in 1997, 2001, and 2008, when similar efforts failed. In 1996, the denomination restat

Homosexuality and the Bible — A Jewish Perspective

Image
Image via Wikipedia The Conservative movement within American Judaism is debating the issue of homosexuality , centered in the questions of the ordination of homosexuals as rabbis and the blessing of same-sex union.  As with Christian denominations , the inescapable issue is the authority of the Bible. The Old Testament ’s clear words of condemnation for all homosexual behavior would seem to be clear enough, but the  Virtual Talmud  blog offers this explanation: The question of same-sex marriage is controversial, of course. It would be easy to argue, as many do, that same-sex marriage, and by extension all homosexuality, is biblically prohibited. Leviticus 18:22 clearly states, “Do not lie with a male as one lies with a woman, it is an abhorrence.”If we were to read the Bible as a fundamentalist would, those words might be enough for us. But as Jews, we don’t act simply on the literal words of the Bible. We seek to understand God’s will for us through the lenses of (rabbinic) inte
