Why Do 1 In 6 Gen Z Adults Identify As LGBT?

Image
One of the early gay activist talking points was that 1 in 10 people were gay, even though the activists knew this was not true. That’s why it was significant when, in 2011, demographer Gary Gates, himself gay, “released a review of population-based surveys on the topic, estimating that 3.5% of adults in the United States identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual, with bisexuals making up a slight majority of that figure.” Other surveys came to similar conclusions, and even as recently as 2017, a Gallup poll put the total percentage of Americans who identify as LGBT at 4.5%. The newest Gallup poll, however, puts that number at 5.6%. More strikingly, the poll indicates that 1 out of every 6 generation Z adults (meaning over 16% of those aged 18-23) identifies as LGBT. How can this be? Additionally, “More than half of LGBT adults (54.6%) identify as bisexual. About a quarter (24.5%) say they are gay, with 11.7% identifying as lesbian and 11.3% as transgender. An additional 3.3% volunteer ano

Psychotherapist appeals to European Court after UK university cancels his PhD on transgender regret

Image
A researcher whose university canceled his study of sex-change regret has taken his case to the European Court of Human Rights.  James Caspian, 61, a psychotherapist who had counseled transgender people for a decade, was prevented by England’s Bath Spa University from pursuing a project it had initially accepted: a study entitled “An examination of the experience of people who have undergone Reverse Gender Reassignment Surgery.” A former teacher training college, Bath Spa was not permitted to grant university degrees until 1992.  Supported by the Christian Legal Centre, Caspian first challenged the Bath Spa University’s decision in the British courts . Now he is taking his case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).  “I have been faced with no alternative but to take this case to Europe,” Caspian stated in a press release. “Too much is at stake for academic freedom and for hundreds, if not thousands, of young people who are saying that they are being harmed and often silenced b

Effects Of ‘Conversion Therapy’ Ban Rejected By Kiwis: Poll

Image
A nationwide poll has found that there is widespread opposition to the legal effects of a ‘conversion therapy’ ban. In the poll of 1,000 New Zealanders surveyed just before Christmas by Curia Market Research, respondents were asked “If a person is unsure about their sexual orientation or gender identity, should they be able to seek counseling support to determine their own direction in how they identify?” 81% of respondents said they believed a person should be able to seek counseling support to determine their own direction. Only 12% were opposed. According to a legal opinion released yesterday, if a person wanted to align their sexuality with the teachings and values of their particular faith – be it Muslim or Christian, Jewish or Sikh – and sought help to do so from a minister, imam, or another faith leader, a ban would make it virtually impossible to access the support they wanted. Furthermore, if they were able to find someone prepared to provide counseling of that kind, they coul

Silence people who hold these views

A pro-abortion and pro-gay medical lecturer has returned her Australia Day award in protest at the decision to give the country’s highest honor to tennis great Margaret Court. Caroline de Costa was given the Order of Australia (AM) in 2014 for her work in women’s reproductive health (abortion)  But she decided to return the award after Court was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) earlier this week. Professor de Costa said as a medical practitioner, and as the mother of a gay son, she did not wish to be associated with an organization that condoned the views of Court. She is not biased. She set out her "you must think my way or else you are a bigot" reasons in a letter to Governor-General David Hurley. Court had already been recognized for her tennis achievements and charity work with an Order of Australia in 2007. Over the intervening fourteen years, she has used her position as a public figure to espouse God's correct and healthy views on sexuality, and

Have We Surrendered the Freedom To Think What We Think?

Image
Does she look at all like a man to you? Do you have permission to ask yourself that question? Dr. Rachel Levine is Joe Biden’s nominee for assistant secretary of health. Her position is of no matter at the moment, other than the fact that her photo is so much in the news; and neither is her gender, not in this discussion at any rate. My question is what you are allowed to think when you see her. We do not normally use trans persons’ changed/acquired pronouns at The Stream, but I’m making an exception this time, for several reasons. For one, I want to make sure there’s no doubt what I’m focusing on here: Not her gender, but what we have permission to think. Questions of Suffering, a Question of Freedom And I’m also going to ask questions here that may make Dr. Levine unhappy, and I have no need or desire to do so more than necessary. I do not presume to know her experience, but I do know the transgender condition can be painful, even cruel. A cousin of mine transitioned from his male pe

NBC News dehumanizing Christians

Image
NBC News is doing a full-court press against pro-family organizations, with three smear pieces in the last three weeks of 2020. These stories aim to eliminate pro-family groups from polite society and routine business transactions. Even worse, these NBC News stories are scapegoating and marginalizing Christians. We are to blame, you see, for all the troubles in our troubled world. The SPLC “Hate List” First up: on December 9, NBC News published a story cataloging 14 organizations on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Hate List” that received Paycheck Protection Program forgivable loans. (Full disclosure: the Ruth Institute, which I head, is one of the 14.) The Paycheck Protection Program was designed to provide relief to small businesses affected by the government-imposed coronavirus lockdowns. The NBC article quoted experts who mused aloud about whether the government should forgive Paycheck Protection Program loans to these “hate groups.” These experts were “troubled” by “extremist g
