By a vote of 9-6, the House's Human Services Committee passed the Conversion Therapy Prohibition Act. The legislation  was introduced  by lesbian Kelly Cassidy , a Democrat. According to  The Huffington Post , Cassidy previously said the bill was designed "to keep our LGBT youth safe." In a statement , the Illinois Family Institute (IFI) called the legislation "destructive, unethical, and dishonest." The organization, which has opposed the legislation since it was introduced, says "the ultimate motivation behind this legislation is to promote the Leftist assumptions of adult homosexuals who seek to wipe disapproval of homosexual acts from the face of the planet.” IFI also said the bill "is

Gay couples can ‘marry’ before law takes effect, Obama-appointed judge rules

CHICAGO, February 24, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A federal judge appointed by Barack Obama has ruled that homosexuals in Chicago can get “married” starting immediately – even though the state law recognizing same-sex “marriage” has not yet gone into effect. The bill creating same-sex “marriage” in Illinois , which proponents dubbed the “Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act,” does not provide for homosexual nuptials to be recognized until June 1. U.S. District Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman, an Obama appointee But U.S. District Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman said she decided to allow homosexual couples to obtain marriage licenses at once, because there had been no legal objection in her court and homosexuals had “already suffered from the denial of their fundamental right to marry.” Another federal judge ruled last year that homosexuals who had medical conditions that would likely allow them to die could receive a marriage license before the law had formally been c

The bill's House sponsor, Rep. Greg Harris , announced this evening that he did not have the votes to pass the measure and would not bring the legislation to a vote. Assuming this is the case, the bill is thus dead until the fall when the Legislature reconvenes for a veto session. "This effort to redefine marriage in Illinois was one of the most fiercely contested legislative battles in the country this year," said Brian Brown , NOM's president. "This is a great victory for our allies and supporters, as well as Illinois families who have worked tirelessly with us t

Illinois Senate passed marriage redefinition bill; 'Catholic' governor promises to sign it

SPRINGFIELD, IL , February 15, 2013, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The heavily Democratic Illinois Senate voted mostly along party lines Thursday to approve a bill redefining marriage in the state to include homosexual couples. The vote was 34-21, with three Democrats voting against the bill and only one Republican voting for it. Two additional Democrats voted “present.” Democratic Governor Pat Quinn , who is Catholic, has been publicly urging passage of a same-sex “marriage” bill for months, despite his Church’s strong opposition. If the bill passes the House for Quinn’s signature, Illinois would become the nation’s tenth state to allow same-sex “marriages,” along with the District of Columbia . Gov. Pat Quinn “Today, we are one step closer to marriage equality in Illinois,” said Governor Quinn on Thursday. “Couples across Illinois have even more reason today to celebrate their love for each other, thanks to the hard work of committed advocates and lawmakers. Illinois school district ejects homosexual activist curriculum

ERIE, ILLINOIS, June 25, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – An Illinois school district has bucked the national homosexual lobby by voting to remove books that promote same-sex “marriage” or mainstream alternate lifestyles. After parents complained about The Family Book, which the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) recommends “to naturalize and celebrate family diversity,” the Erie Community Unit School District 1 voted to remove all GLSEN curriculum from the district. The vote was 5-2. Ann Schipper, the mother of three children in the system, said the curriculum “completely wipes away what my kids have learned at church and at home, and it creates confusion in them.” GLSEN’s “Ready, Set, Respect!” curriculum, aimed at elementary school students as young as kindergarten, intentionally hopes to alter young children’s definition of family and sexual identity. Its toolkit states: “The elementary school years offer a wonderful and important opportunity to instill an
