Expecting Catholic school employees to abide by long-standing Catholic morals will be added to the legal understanding of “discrimination,” if a case currently before the Alberta Human Rights Commission succeeds against Calgary Catholic School District. At issue is the district’s language in teacher contracts that holds them to “Catholic values,” particularly a “lifestyle and deportment in harmony with Catholic teaching and principles.” The Calgary Herald reports that Barb Hamilton, a former principal in the district, is one of two people suing over the requirement; another teacher has chosen to remain anonymous. Hamilton has filed her human-rights complaints on “marital status, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation” grounds, Catholic News Agency reports . “Their perspective is I resigned and my perspective is I wasn’t given a choice,” she claims. “Relationships that would be acceptable are those recognized by the Catholic Church, that have to be acknowledged by a Catholic priest

The principal of a Catholic school on the Main Line who sparked outrage after reportedly firing a teacher because she is in a same-sex marriage resigned on Friday, according to reports. Nell Stetser, five-year principal of Waldron Mercy Academy , announced her resignation via email on Friday citing a personal decision to leave her post, Philly Voice reported . Stetser raised public ire after she fired Margie Winters, director of religious education , in July 2015 for being a lesbian. Winters said she told the school about her relationship when she was hired eight months prior. According to 6ABC , a parent complained to the school upon learning about Winters’ relationship. Kimberly M. Baxter, chair of the school's Board of Trustees , sent out an email on Friday directly after Stetser’s was sent writing that Stetser had informed the board of her plan to resign on Wednesday. Pope Francis warned on Saturday of a " global war " against traditional marriage and the family, saying both were under attack from gender theory and divorce . Francis made his comments in an impromptu response to a question at a meeting of the small Catholic community in the ex- Soviet republic of Georgia . A small group of Catholic parishioners in Providence, Rhode Island , protested the removal of a recently ‘married’ homosexual music director by wearing rainbow-colored paraphernalia to the Sunday morning service and singing a song about inclusion during the recitation of the Nicene Creed . Francesco Francese, who took over St. Mary’s parish earlier this summer, removed Michael Templeton from his role as music director after discovering that the homosexual had ‘married’ his same-sex partner last year. Fourteen-year-old female student Madelyn Catrambone wants two things: to go to a Christian (Catholic) school and to be a boy. Camden Catholic High School told her she can't have it both ways. After talking at length with Madelyn’s parents, Principal Heather Crisci concluded that fidelity to the school's Catholic beliefs include not treating a girl as if she were a boy.
