Judge overturns Tennessee ban on same-sex ‘marriage’: true marriage laws are historical ‘footnotes’

ATLANTA, GA , March 17, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A federal judge on Friday issued an injunction temporarily blocking enforcement of Tennessee’s constitutional ban on same-sex “marriage,” noting in her decision that she believes laws defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman will soon be nothing more than historical “footnotes.” “At this point, all signs indicate that, in the eyes of the United States Constitution , [same-sex] marriages will be placed on an equal footing with those of heterosexual couples and that proscriptions against same-sex marriage will soon become a footnote in the annals of American history,” wrote Judge Aleta Trauger .  Trauger’s order means that the state must recognize – at least for now – the “marriages” of three homosexual couples who married in states where the practice is legal and have sued to overturn the 2006 ban.  The order currently applies only to those directly involved in the case. FRANKFORT, KY , February 27, 2014 – A federal judge refused to grant a stay to his ruling that Kentucky must recognize same-sex “marriages” conducted in other states, or foreign countries. That means the traditional, religious state must treat such unions as  bona fide  “marriages” at once. U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn II   made the initial ruling on February 12 . On Thursday, he issued a final order striking down parts of a state law and a state constitutional marriage amendment supported by a wide majority of the voters. Judge John G. Heyburn II In 2004, 75 percent of the state's electorate approved a marriage protection amendment. Heyburn ruled that the measures “deny validly married same-sex couples equal recognition and benefits under Kentucky and federal law, those laws violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution , and they are void and unenforceable." Kentucky gay ‘marriage’ ruling may spell trouble for Mitch McConnell

LOUISVILLE, KY , February 12, 2014  - A judicial ruling that  Kentucky must recognize same-sex "marriages" conducted in other nations  or U.S. states may spell more trouble for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell . U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn II offered a strongly worded rebuke to tradition and religion on Wednesday, saying the state amendment -- which was approved by three-quarters of state voters -- "demeans" homosexuals. The Madison Project , a national grassroots organization that favors traditional marriage, noted that President George H.W. Bush appointed Heyburn to the bench in the early 1990s following a recommendation “from Senator Mitch McConnell who used him as a special counsel while serving as Judge Executive of Jefferson County in the early ‘80s. Thanks to McConnell, Kentucky is being subjected to the tyranny of the liberal agenda without a vote. ” (Emphasis in original.) The group, along with the Senate Conservatives F

Lesbians sue to force Catholic hospital to provide same-sex benefits, undermine DOMA

NEW YORK, NEW YORK , June 21, 2012, ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - A New York lesbian couple has sued to force a Catholic hospital to provide them with insurance benefits by challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The same-sex couple has filed a lawsuit against Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield and St. Joseph’s Medical Center because one of St. Joseph’s divisions, St. Vincent’s Westchester, denied them spousal benefits. The plaintiffs, who have  chosen to remain anonymous , are seeking past and future benefits and a declaration that they are entitled to receive them. Though New York recognizes same-sex marriage, self-insured employers such as St. Joseph’s  may still refuse to recognize them  because they are governed by federal regulations, rather than state regulations. Catholic League  President Bill Donohue strongly condemned the lawsuit on Wednesday in a statement e-mailed to LifeSiteNews.com, calling it an infringement on the hospital’s rights m
