JASON COLLINS, CHRIS BROUSSARD, AND OUR CULTURAL TEMPERATURE

Image
In many ways the news serves to be a thermometer of the culture. Today’s headlines give us an indication of the sentiment of the world around us. This sentiment is clearly seen in the story of Jason Collins . As the first major sports professional to admit that they are homosexual , Collins is receiving substantial news attention. And he should, it is, after all, big news. It’s unprecedented. Although Collins did not finish the season with an NBA team he did play nearly half the season in the NBA. Collins said, “I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation,” Collins wrote. “I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, ‘I’m different.’ If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.” As   ESPN reports , the support has been overwhelmingly positive. As I checked the pulse of the social media,

Marriage Equality?

Image
Equality can sometimes be a good thing. For example, it was nice when your brother or sister didn’t get a bigger piece of cake than you did. And it’s nice when two friends care about each other with equal affection. And it’s nice when you pull the left oar and right oar of a rowboat with equal strength as you try to cross a lake on a windless day. Equality has become a buzzword among those who support same-sex marriage. The idea is that different forms of unions (for example, same-sex and opposite-sex) should have equal legal status as marriage. While there are good secular/rational/natural arguments against same-sex marriage, people of faith also make arguments based on their religious beliefs, and especially on what the Bible says. As a result, proponents of same-sex marriage sometimes resort to the Bible as well. One particular aspect of the Bible that proponents often cite in support of their position is the variety of marital forms found in the Old Testament . For example, in

Gay Marriages don't even last!

According to  Vicky Gene Robinson , who  retired  as a bishop in 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the liberal  Center for American Progress , "it takes two people to make a marriage and two people to make a divorce ." But Robinson said that despite the legal separation , he "will be forever grateful to [Mark]" for "standing by me through the challenges of the last decade." Bishop Gene Robinson The divorce was the bishop's second – Robinson  was married to a woman for 14 years . Homosexual activists have responded to the news of the high-profile dissolution by saying that homosexual and heterosexual marriages often end in divorce. But they don't know what they are talking about. However, a 2004  Family Research Council  study  showed  that only five percent of homosexual couples in America are still together after 20 years, while nearly 58 percent of heterosexuals were still married 20 years after walking down the aisle. First openly gay Episcopal bishop scripture evader and homosexual promoter to divorce his ‘husband’

NEW HAMPSHIRE,  – The first openly gay bishop the Episcopal Church , whose election in 2003 helped split the squabbling denomination in two, has announced that he and his homosexual partner of more than a quarter-century are divorcing. They were "married" in 2010 after participating in the state's civil union laws in 2008. According to Vicky Gene Robinson , who  retired  as a bishop in 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the liberal Center for American Progress , "it takes two people to make a marriage and two people to make a divorce." Church of England: sinful orientation of episcopal nominees is ‘irrelevant’

Image
At the same time as it faces legislation that some say will likely force them to participate in gay “marriage,” the Church of England issued  a legal document last week illustrating the fine lines that must be walked by those responsible for appointing new bishops. To be admitted to Holy Orders , the document says, a person must be “of virtuous conversation and good repute and such as to be a wholesome example and pattern to the flock of Christ.” It adds, “ Bishops are seen within the Anglican Communion as those who have the responsibility ‘to guard the faith, unity and discipline of the whole Church’.” Nevertheless, the document warns those on appointment committees that a clergyman’s “sexual orientation” is officially “irrelevant to their suitability for episcopal office,” and that it may not be taken into account when considering nominations for bishops. The ordination of openly homosexual Gene Robinson in the United States precipitated a crisis in the Global Anglica

Why Homosexuality is sinful and against a healthy society

English: Gender symbols, sexual orientation: heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality. Česky: (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Homosexuality involves sexual attraction to those of the same sex. Homosexuals may be either male or female (with the latter group sometimes referred to as lesbians). It may be constitutional (or static), in which case it is a “predominant and persistent psychosexual attraction towards members of the same sex”. This sexual preference is a fixed reality in the person’s life, even though it may or may not be acted on. Alternatively, homosexuality may be situational (or dynamic). Situational homosexuality tends to occur when someone has a series of homosexual experiences during a specific period, for example, while imprisoned or during a war, but then reverts to heterosexuality when the situation changes. Much of the modern attempt to justify homosexuality is based on the belief that certain people are constitutionally homosexual, possibly even at the
