Agree to disagree: not an option with homosexual marriage

Official crest of Union University (Trademark of Union University) (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Is the nature of marriage an “agree-to-disagree” issue for Christians ? Earlier this week, Scot McKnight commented on the decision of Union University to withdraw from the CCCU ( Council for Christian Colleges and Universities ) because no action had yet been taken regarding two Mennonite faith-based colleges that opened the door to same-sex marriages among their faculty. Anticipating that other Christian colleges will soon follow Union’s lead, Scot explains why he agrees with Union on the biblical teaching of marriage, but disagrees with Union on withdrawing from the CCCU. The Gospel and Marriage Scot believes it is problematic for evangelicals to consider one’s teaching on marriage as more central to the gospel than other issues that divide Christians (baptism, for example). He critiques Union’s president, Dub Oliver, for saying that division on marriage damages our Christian witness

The Canadian Teachers Federation honored a Manitoba teacher last month for promoting acceptance of homosexuality in his grade 5 classroom despite opposition from parents . Peter Wohlgemut, who teaches at West Park School in the predominantly Mennonite community of Altona, faced backlash after displaying a card in his classroom proclaiming himself an “ally.” "Peter Wohlgemut is a role model for all educators in Canada to stand up in the face of hate mongering and be the public face for progressive change in public education," the Canadian Teachers Federation states in the brochure for its annual general meeting on July 9-11, where they gave him a Special Recognition Award. According to the CTF , Wohlgemut participated in a training session at the Rainbow Resource Centre in Winnipeg and upon finishing the course was given an "ally" training certificate which he put up in his classroom. Mennonite Church USA (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) has announced it will suspend a policy against same-sex relationships for faculty, as the school enters a “listening period” to review its stance on homosexuality. If the policy change becomes permanent, EMU would become the first member institution of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities ( CCCU ) to allow practicing gays and lesbians to serve as professors. The school’s board of trustees unanimously approved the review. EMU President Loren Swartzendruber said that the period of reflection would allow the school “to engage in community discussion and discernment over issues that Mennonite congregations—indeed almost all denominations in the United States today—are wrestling with.” The board also reaffirmed EMU’s relationship with the Mennonite Church USA —but that denomination’s “Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective” states that “God intends marriage to be a covenant betwee

Pastor Kenneth Miller and family. August 10, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) - Federal prosecutors are presenting their case in a trial against a Mennonite pastor who is accused of helping a single motherescape from the United States with her daughter to evade court-ordered visits with a lesbian whom the court declared to be the girl’s second “mother.” Ex-lesbian Lisa Miller fled the country after her efforts failed to keep former “civil union” partner Janet Jenkins from having access to her child, Isabella. Jenkins never adopted Isabella and has no biological relationship with the girl, who  exhibited signs of emotional trauma  following forced visits with Jenkins, according to experts who observed her. Pastor Kenneth Miller’s attorney, Joshua Autry, is arguing that Lisa Miller (who is not related to Kenneth Miller) had full parental rights at the time the pastor transported her to the Canadian border, and that he was not aware of interfering with any court orders, according
