Australian Psychological Society believes gay marriage will heal gays

Image
The Australian Psychological Society has endorsed a recent resolution of the American Psychological Association calling for marriage equality for those in same-sex relationships, on health and wellbeing grounds. The resolution of the APA, called for the legalisation of same-sex marriage, on the basis of psychological evidence showing the mental health benefits of marriage, and the harm caused by social exclusion and discrimination arising from not having the choice to marry .   Professor Simon Crowe , President of the APS, said: “Decades of psychological research provides the evidence linking marriage to mental health benefits, and highlighting the harm to individuals’ mental health of social exclusion. The APS supports the full recognition of same-sex relationships, on the basis of this evidence.” Unfortunately, genuine marriage by definition, history, logic and biological design cannot include same sex relationships. Likewise, the prevent of u nderage children or a brother a

Ontario Catholic school boards back gay clubs bill while Catholic League pans it

TORONTO, Ontario , December 21, 2011 - Despite strong concerns by Catholic parents and groups, Ontario ’s Catholic leaders are backing Premier Dalton McGuinty ’s controversial anti-bullying bill that seeks to require all publicly-funded schools to set up student-run homosexual anti-bullying clubs. Nancy Kirby, president of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA), says the province’s Catholic school boards “welcome” the legislation.  Kirby co-signed the April 15th memo with Archbishop Thomas Collins of Toronto that announced the province’s Catholic schools would be working to develop a network of homosexual anti-bullying clubs.  They are expected to release their framework for the clubs early in the new year.  The office of Archbishop Collins also informed LifeSiteNews that he will be speaking to the matter early in the new year. T. PAUL, MINNESOTA, December 20, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A former Republican candidate for Minnesota governor says a local university offered him a job, then reneged when faculty members objected to his defense of traditional marriage. Tom Emmer   lost a close election  to Democrat Mark Dayton in last year’s contest to succeed Tim Pawlenty . He said officials at St. Paul’s Hamline University approached him about serving as an “executive in residence” in the business school , where he would teach and aid the university in fundraising. However, the university abruptly terminated the position after appearing to offer it to him.  Tom Emmer A statement from the university simply acknowledged, “Although there were conversations over several months about the opportunity for Mr. Emmer to join the Hamline faculty, there was no finalized agreement between Mr. Emmer and the university.”  However, one e-mail Emmer  released  shows university officials apparently preparing him to assume te

Obama sends wedding congratulations to gay couple

BROOKLYN, New York , December 21, 2011  (LifeSiteNews.com ) - A homosexual couple in New York says they received a formal letter of congratulations on their wedding from President Obama, who in public statements has maintained opposition to redefining marriage . Matt Katz and Aaron Lafrenz of Brooklyn, New York , were among the first homosexual couples to obtain a marriage license in New York this summer. This week they offered to the media an image of a congratulatory letter signed by Barack Obama and bearing the White House seal that arrived in their mailbox this month. It reads in part: “Congratulations on this special occasion. Michelle and I hope it is blessed with love, laughter, and happiness. Your union marks the beginning of a lifelong partnership as you share in the joys of your life together.” Katz told ABC News that a family friend had heard that Obama was taking requests upon passage of the New York marriage bill, and thus  requested the letter  for the couple. Teachers union threatens Catholic rights by backing gay relationships

Image
Image via Wikipedia TORONTO, December 16, 2011 – The Toronto chapter of the Ontario English Catholic Teacher’s Association (OECTA) had passed two resolutions that contravene Catholic moral doctrine on homosexuality.  One of the November 24th resolutions, if adopted by the province-wide union as a whole, would make it OECTA policy to pressure Catholic schools , in the course of future contract negotiations, to give up their constitutional right to fire or refuse to hire teachers who are in homosexual relationships. Campaign Life Catholics, an activist group based in Toronto, says the departure from Catholic faith that this represents is “immediately evident.” What’s not immediately evident, they say, is that this resolution, if adopted by the entire union, would actually have the effect of placing the union in direct opposition to a 1984 Supreme Court decision that ruled in favour of the right of Catholic schools to maintain their Catholic identity. In the 1984 case of Caldwell v.

The Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) announced in a press release Thursday that they had filed a lawsuit on behalf of Daniel Glowacki, a junior at Howell High School at the time of the incident, against the school and his economics teacher Johnson McDowell. The incident occurred on October 20, 2010, the day that Daniel’s Economics class teacher, Jay McDowell, wore a purple “Tyler’s Army” t-shirt, as part of a national campaign promoted by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation to highlight “bullying” of homosexuals. The lawyers say McDowell spent the entire class promoting the anti-gay bullying agenda. According to TMLC, which is representing the student in court, Glowacki was specifically asked by McDowell about his feelings o

Homosexuality divides the German Church

Image
Image via Wikipedia According to the Bishop of Munich , homosexuals “are part of the church community and are welcome to work in the parish" What space do homosexuals have within the Catholic Church ? Ten years after the law on same sex civil unions was introduced in Germany on 1 August 2001, the question divides German bishops. On the one hand there are those who, like the Archbishop of Munich and Freising ,   Reinhard Marx , is convinced that homosexuals "are part" of the church community and are also welcome to work in the parish. On the other hand those who, like Franz-Josef Overbeck , who besides being the Bishop of Essen is also the military Bishop of the Bundeswehr ,   believes that homosexuality is "a sin.” “ All who want to participate, open up to the Gospel and join the community of the Church, are welcome ,”   Marx said, in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung .  “ I cannot bless a gay relationship, but I can pray for people who request it.  It wou
