Court okays fire chief’s lawsuit after he was fired for Christian views on marriage

Image
Terminated Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran's lawsuit for discrimination can go forward, a federal court ruled Wednesday. The news comes in a press release issued by the Alliance Defending Freedom , which is representing Cochran. ADF says the court's decision was based upon the orthodox Christian's "primary claims of retaliation, discrimination based on his viewpoint, and the violation of his constitutionally protected freedoms of religion, association, and due process (firing without following proper procedure)." Cochran   lost his job in January   after publishing a book about Christianity in which he upheld Christian teachings on marriage and sexuality. The city's mayor suspended Cochran without pay for 30 days and ordered him to take " sensitivity training ." Cochran was eventually fired despite a city investigation that found the fire chief had not engaged in discrimination. “A religious or ideological test cannot be used to fire a pub

Pastor blasted by Homosexual advocate now human Rights commissioner

Image
It's hard to believe, but even in Iowa opponents of God's design for marriage have resorted to name calling, threats, and bias behavior. In  Sioux City , during the 2010 campaign to unseat three renegade judges, Scott Raasch sent this email to a Christian pastor, Rev. Cary Gordon, who campaigned against gay marriage : Raasch wrote, "You will get what's coming to you sooner or later. I hope you rot in hell," adding, "I think there are many people that deserve to burn in hell...including you and your entire family." These are not the words of tolerance or civility, and they certainly do not lift up human rights . Despite these threats, Mr. Raasch now sits on the  Sioux City Human Rights Commission . Even though he's since apologized for his outrageous language, can Iowans who believe in true marriage really expect justice and impartiality when the person responsible for protecting human rights so viciously attacks the right to speak the truth about

Gay Human Rights Commissioner to Evangelical pastor: you and your family ‘deserve to burn in hell’

SIOUX CITY, IA , July 23, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews ) – An Evangelical pastor in Sioux City is requesting the removal of a newly-appointed member of the city’s Human Rights Commission because of hateful and threatening comments the official posted to the pastor’s Facebook page in 2010. Pastor Cary Gordon of Cornerstone World Outreach says that Human Rights Commissioner Scott Raasch, who is homosexual, wrote on Facebook that because Gordon had encouraged voters to toss out three Supreme Court judges whose court order made same-sex “marriage” legal in Iowa , he was a “hater” and a “bigot” and that he should “burn in hell” along with his entire family. “I advocated for the removal of our state supreme court judges in 2010, because they violated their oaths of office while pretending to be lawmakers, forcing gay ‘marriage’ on our state,” Gordon recounted in a  blog post .  “Thankfully, a significant majority of Iowa citizens agreed with my advocacy for the rule of law and the restricted

Mayor dismissed by refusing to join Homosexual Pride Nudity Parade

Rob Ford , Toronto ’s right-leaning mayor, was booted from office Monday morning after two years of relentless attacks from liberal politicians and media. Rob Ford Ontario Justice Charles Hackland found him guilty of a conflict of interest after he voted on a city council measure involving donations to his football foundation. Ford, who was elected in 2010 on fiscally conservative promises to “stop the gravy train,” had especially angered the city’s liberal stronghold by, among other things,  refusing to attend Toronto’s Gay Pride parade as previous mayors had done. He was also up front about his opposition to same-sex “marriage.” Ford will be allowed to run for the mayor’s office again, however. The judge had the option of barring him from running for up to seven years. Gloucester City Council apologizes to Christians for banning PRO-MARRIAGE tracts

Image
GLOUCESTER – The Christian Legal Centre reports that a Christian group has received an apology from the Gloucester City Council, saying that they had been fully within their rights to hand out religious leaflets THAT SPEAK ON THE SIN OF HOMOSEXUALITY and that it had been wrong to try to stop them. The apology comes after the city had attempted to stop members of ten city churches from handing out tracts during “Bible Day Gloucester”. The Council claimed that the group had breached city by-laws, but later apologized following the threat of legal action . Roland Parsons, a spokesman for Christians in Gloucester, said the group is “delighted that the council has seen sense”. “ Christians in Gloucester maintain that we have the basic freedom in Britain to hand out literature of a political or religious opinion to any other citizen in Gloucester,” he said. “We also refuse to live in a totalitarian regime where political and religious opinion is banned. The city MP would n

Toronto’s funding for Gay Pride questioned over ‘Israeli Apartheid’ signs

Image via Wikipedia Toronto’s annual “ Gay Pride ” parade may be in jeopardy of losing its funding from the City of Toronto after virulently anti- Israeli activists were seen participating in the parade. According to news sources, the parade is set to receive $128,000 from the city this year, about a quarter of the parade’s funding, in addition to about $250,000 of police and clean-up services – all at taxpayer’s expense. City Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti , however, declared that funding to the “Gay Pride” parade should be cut after he witnessed pro-Palestinian marchers brandishing “Israeli Apartheid” messages. “People can say and do what they want in this country,” Mammoliti said Monday. “They should be able to carry the banners they want, but not on the public dime.” Mammoliti, who videotaped the anti-Israeli participants himself,  says he took offense at the political message that he believes presents grounds for cutting public funds to the parade.  In particular, he noted
