Why did Joel Osteen dodge CNN questions on homosexuality?

Image
Texas Megachurch Pastor Joel Osteen squirmed under a barrage of question about his beliefs on homosexuality during a discussion on CNN ’s “Talking points with Soledad O’Brien ” last Thursday.  The conversation began as a discussion between Osteen and New Age self-help guru Deepak Chopra about the importance of positive thinking, but then abruptly turned to homosexuality. Osteen struggles to answer questions about his beliefs on homosexuality during a recent CNN appearance. “Almost every time we have a pastor on, it’s a conversation we have,” CNN host O’Brien explained to Osteen. “I always wonder when you say homosexuality is a sin and there’s a bunch of people who clearly are gay who are in your church,” she continued. “You’re calling them sinners. I mean, that is the opposite of uplifting, I would think.” “Well, Soledad, I don’t necessarily focus on that. I only talk about that in the interviews,” Osteen replied. When asked if he thought he had an important voice to

New Jersey Archbishop Myers: Catholics who back gay ‘marriage’ should not receive Holy Communion

Image
NEWARK, NJ , - On Tuesday Newark Archbishop John J. Myers released a pastoral letter calling on Catholics , especially Catholic politicians, who do not accept the teaching of the Church on marriage, to “in all honesty and humility refrain from receiving Holy Communion .”  The Archbishop said that “to continue to receive Holy Communion while so dissenting would be objectively dishonest.” Archbishop John J. Myers The New Jersey prelate made a distinction between those struggling at times unsuccessfully against sin, and those who would willingly oppose Church teaching.  He said: “there is a difference between trying to live the whole Gospel while repenting of failures along the way, and not even trying. Worse still is the attempt by some to alter or pervert the authentic teaching of the Church, which is the true teaching of Christ .”  Archbishop Myers warned, “ Jesus had very harsh things to say to those whose false teachings led others, especially the young, astray.”

Keep the Republic and marriage!

Image
Benjamin Franklin 1767 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Sean Fieler is a good man. An investor and philanthropist, he supports dozens of good causes, including NOM's work to protect marriage. But he knows his support for NOM and for marriage could make him a target for gay activists, just like we saw happen recently to Dan Cathy, the owner of Chick-fil-A. Sean could have kept his support for marriage private. Instead, drawing inspiration from Dan Cathy, Sean decided to become one of the first signers at KeepTheRepublicAndMarriage.com and "out" himself as a public supporter of marriage. Sean said no more to intimidation of good Americans. He refuses to be silenced or intimidated:  Gay marriage activists are successfully using fear and intimidation to silence the majority of Americans who want to preserve marriage as God created it, the union of one man and one woman. To stop this cycle fear and intimidation, we need courageous Americans to step forward and make public t

Leading homosexual rights advocate arrested on child pornography suspicions

Image
SAN FRANCISCO, CA , September 25, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – A prominent homosexual rights advocate surrendered to police on Thursday after being charged with two felony counts of child pornography possession and distribution, according to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).  Larry Brinkin was first arrested on the same allegations in June, but was released, with the SFPD citing the need for further investigation.  Now he is awaiting arraignment while out on bail. Larry Brinkin The SFPD has released information indicating that some of the children used for Brinkin’s alleged pornography collection appear to be as young as one, two and three years old.  Accompanying the pornographic images of the children were racist and violent remarks also alleged to be made by Brinkin. Peter LaBarbera , president of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, told LifeSiteNews that people shouldn’t be shocked to learn that Brinkin, “the pioneering San Francisco homosexual act

Homosexual Marriage: A Child’s View

Image
Kids need both a mom and a dad! The current controversy concerning marriage may be one of the biggest distractions in this election season. It is often categorized as a divisive “social issue.” Many Americans realize that the definition of marriage, the controversy about abortion and America’s support of Israel are huge spiritual and moral issues that will determine the kind of America we will create for the generations that follow us. Same-sex marriage advocates love to talk about the freedom to love and their own interpretation of “rights.” The truth is that none of us need a legal contract to love—we are all born with that freedom. Marriage is not really about the desires of adults. It should be about endorsing the kind of families that will be the best for kids and supporting those unions with public policies, even though other living arrangements may exist. The reason that legally defined marriage is important is because of children. It takes a mother and a father to conceive a

Chick-fil-A has made ‘no such concessions’ to the gay agenda: Dan Cathy denies media reports

Image
CHICAGO, – After a Chicago alderman  claimed last week  that Chick-fil-A had agreed not to fund pro-family organizations, the fast food chain’s president Dan Cathy has set the record straight. “Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been,” he said in a statement posted on Mike Huckabee ’s website on Friday. Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy. Last week, First Ward Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno, who has been opposing Chick-fil-A’s attempts to open a franchise because of Cathy’s traditional marriage views,  claimed  that the Christian business had agreed that its philanthropy arm, the WinShape Foundation, would no longer support organizations that oppose redefining marriage. The news was widely reported in the mainstream media as a major “victory” for the pro-homosexual movement. However, the pro-family organization  MassResistance  told LifeSiteNews.com in an e-mail that a spokeswoman for the fast food chain specifically said th

BBC article on ‘gay therapies’ is simplistic, misleading and ignores much of the available evidence

Image
September 24, 2012 ( pjSaunders ) - Should people with unwanted feelings of same-sex attraction seek professional help? And if so what kind of help and what expectations should they realistically have? BBC Religion and Ethics recently published an article on this extremely controversial subject titled ‘ Ex-gay survivor’s tales of exorcism in middle England ’. I was asked to submit a quote for it yesterday but was unable to obtain any information about what angle the author would be writing it from. So I sent in four carefully drafted sentences of which they used only the one that most closely fitted with their agenda. The article relates the story of Peterson Toscano , who ‘after $30,000 for controversial conversion therapy, three attempts at exorcism and one failed marriage, finally resolved the conflict between his faith and sexuality - he was gay’. At the end there are some comments from Peter Ould and myself (see Peter’s take  here ). Toscano’s case highlights th

When Even Joel Osteen Is Treated as a Bigot by Homosexuals

Image
For those who regard homosexual behavior to be sinful, it’d be hard to imagine someone less offensive, definitive, and informed than Joel Osteen . He doesn’t preach about the holiness of God and he doesn’t preach about sin, much less the sin of homosexuality. To my knowledge, he never talks about it unless asked on a talk show. But that’s not good enough, as can be seen in his most recent interview on CNN : This reminded me of a  recent comment  from Carl Trueman, in typical Trueman style: You really do kid only yourselves if you think you can be an orthodox Christian and be at the same time cool enough and hip enough to cut it in the wider world. Frankly, in a couple of years it will not matter how much urban ink you sport, how much fair trade coffee you drink, how many craft brews you can name, how much urban gibberish you spout, how many art house movies you can find that redeemer figure in, and how much money you divert from gospel preaching to social justice: maintain

Christian politicians must protect marriage, common good, says pope

Image
Pope Benedictus XVI (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Christian politicians have a duty to protect human life , traditional marriage and the common good, Pope Benedict XVI said. All Christians are called upon to defend and promote human dignity , and "this responsibility particularly concerns those called to political office ," he told representatives of Christian Democratic parties from around the world. The Old Testament warning that "judgment is stern" for those in high places is "highly beneficial," the pope said, because it is "a warning given not to frighten but to spur and encourage those in government, at all levels, to achieve all the good of which they are capable, in keeping with the mission the Lord entrusts to each one." The pope's remarks came during an audience with political leaders taking part in the Christian/Centrist Democrat International's executive committee meeting Sept. 21 in Rome. The group's president, Pie
