Alberta’s conservative party says leader has spiralled down on abortion, gay ‘marriage’

Image
BELIEVE IN NOTHING PARTY Another formerly-staunch pro-life and pro-family politician in Canada is now reportedly saying he has "evolved" on the issues of abortion and homosexual ‘marriage.’ With his previous long-standing track record of voting pro-life — even being co-chair of the parliamentary pro-life caucus — and supporting traditional male/female marriage, United Conservative Party (UCP) Leader Jason Kenney drew the ire of a pro-LGBT lawyer on Twitter earlier this week. Kyle Morrow tweeted Nov. 12 : "Jason Kenney (@jkenney) wants to block gay adoption, defund abortion and invoke the notwithstanding clause [to stop homosexual ‘marriage’]." Attached to that tweet was an audio recording on an introduction Kenney had made of another politician whom he praised as someone "who fought with me to end taxpayer-funded abortions" and to "prevent gay adoption." That tweet generated 581 likes and was retweeted 615 times by Friday morning. The Star, a l

Alberta gov’t to schools: You can’t tell parents when their child joins LGBT club

The Alberta NDP government made good its promise and introduced a bill November 2 that forbids schools telling parents their child has joined a “gay-straight alliance” without the child’s consent, regardless of the child’s age. Bill 24, or  An Act to Support Gay-straight Alliances , also nixes a previous exemption for private schools, which will now have to allow gay-straight alliances (GSAs) if a student requests one, although the bill has a mechanism for “exemptions.” Education Minister David Eggen issued a  ministerial order in March  to two private Christian schools demanding they establish a GSA if a student requests one. Under Bill 24, parental notification requirements and opt-out for courses with sexual or religious content will not be in force when it comes to participation in GSAs. The bill compels all schools to tell students they have the legal right to form a GSA, and to establish anti-bullying policies banning discrimination based on gender identity and expr

Alberta gov’t: ‘Unacceptable’ for Catholic schools to uphold Biblical sexuality

The Alberta government says it is “unacceptable” for Catholic schools to uphold Church teaching on sexuality in school curriculum. Media in Alberta reported this week that the Council of Catholic School Superintendents of Alberta had said curriculum promoting the homosexual “lifestyle,” masturbation, anal and oral sex, or transgenderism would be problematic if required by the impending K-12 health and wellness curriculum. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley has criticized the Catholic schools and insisted their proposed program will never be taught if its final form is as it has been advertised. “Under no circumstances will we enforce or condone a sexual health curriculum that normalizes an absence of consent, refuses to talk about contraception and other things that protect the health of sexually active young people, or in any way marginalizes sexual minorities. That's not on,” she told the Canadian Press. Jason Kenney , a Catholic pro-life candidate for the United Co

Christians demand investigation of transgender promotion in Alberta schools

A Christian political action group and a parents group are responding to the controversy over a pro-life group comparing the Holocaust to abortion by accusing the New Democratic government of promoting unscientific and dangerous gender ideology. When Education Minister David Eggen leaked to the press his objections to the comparison made in a Red Deer Catholic high school by the local pro-life group, sex-education advocate Cristina Stasia called for an investigation of what “third party” groups are teaching students about sex and abortion. The Calgary Sexual Health Centre and the Compass Centre for Sexual Wellness joined her in calling for an investigation into third party content, but they were referring to social conservative groups. Now social conservative groups are echoing their call for an investigation. But the concern of the Association for Reformed Political Action and the parents group Informed Albertans are the groups on the Left. They believe the Alberta Teache

Alberta education minister: It’s ‘extremist’ to say parents have right to know when child joins LGBT club

Alberta NDP Education Minister Dave Eggen has slammed Jason Kenney ’s defence of parental rights as “extremist.” Kenney, newly elected leader of the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party , told  Postmedia’s  editorial board Tuesday he would not repeal Bill 10, which mandates schools must provide pro-homosexual gay-straight alliance (GSA) clubs if a student requests it. "I do, however, think that parents have a right to know what's going on with their kids in the schools unless the parents are abusive," added Kenney. “I don’t think it’s right to keep secrets from parents about challenges their kids are going through.” The education system “should be predicated on the presumption that the vast majority of parents are good, loving, caring people who have the best interests of their children at heart,” he said. Eggen, who last week ordered two  private Christian  schools to allow GSAs or be shut down, reacted quickly. “Jason Kenney has shown, once you scra

Canadian Foreign Affairs minister highlights promoting homosexual rights abroad as priority

MONTREAL, September 18, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - Canada ’s Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird told a gathering in Montreal on Friday that Canada will continue to promote homosexual rights as a key component of foreign policy. The minister, speaking at a luncheon held by the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations , said he is “aggressively” pursuing what he called Canada’s “principled, values-based” foreign policy. As part of that effort, Baird said that he is working with western countries to promote homosexual rights in countries around the world where “violent mobs … seek to criminalize homosexuality,” and to make Canada a welcoming haven for homosexual refugees. “We’re working with allies like the EU and the United States on encouraging the decriminalization of homosexuality,” Baird said. “We’re working with all political parties in the House of Commons to fight those who restrict the basic human rights, from Kampala to St. Petersburg. In his address Baird m
