One of television’s last refuges from identity politics will soon be no more, as the Hallmark Channel announced it will add homosexual and/or transgender stories to its film slate. “Diversity and inclusion is a top priority for us and we look forward to making some exciting programming announcements in the coming months, including announcements about projects featuring LGBTQ storylines, characters, and actors,” a Hallmark spokesperson revealed to People after receiving online complaints about the lack of obvious LGBT content in its 2020 lineup of holiday movies. “We are committed to creating a Hallmark experience where everyone feels welcome." Hallmark Christmas movies are known for their feel-good atmosphere and are generally movies which can be enjoyed by the whole family -- without having to explain sexual practices which offend against one's faith. Unfortunately, one of Hallmark's representatives, Michelle Vicary, executive vice president of programming for Crown Media Family Networks (owned by Hallmark), recently told TheWrap.com: “We are continuing to expand our diversity. We are looking at pitches for LGBTQ movies..."
