Reformed Leader against Gay Marriage

Image
Image via Wikipedia I have just finished reading an article from the notoriously left-wing magazine  Newsweek . In the cover story, “The Religious Case for Gay Marriage,” author Lisa Miller argues the case for gay “ marriage ” using the Bible as her authority.  Miller opens with this line: “Let’s try for a minute to take the religious conservatives at their word and define marriage as the Bible does.” She later asserts, “The Bible gives us no good reason to oppose gay marriage.”  It takes no brains but a lot of guts to try to make a case for gay “marriage” (of course, the phrase itself is a contradiction in terms). But it’s just downright crazy to try to make a case for the legitimacy of gay “marriage” using the Bible.   I was recently at an event with Mike Huckabee as the keynote speaker , and I was delighted when the former governor quoted from the book of Judges : “In those days there was no king in Israel . Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” ( Judg. 17:6 ).  This r

J.I. Packer & Homosexuality

Image
Image via Wikipedia When asked about calling those who support homosexuality and profess to be Christian “heretical,” Packer very carefully and insightfully explained what he meant. He began by saying that as Christians we are tempted to sin in many ways, including homosexuality.  However, because God has saved us through Jesus and empowered us with the Holy Spirit , we are to practice ongoing repentance of sin and rejection of sinful desires. He explained in great detail that he perceives the approval of homosexuality to be “heretical” because it denies a fundamental aspect of the gospel—namely repentance.  Packer explained how for six years he called his Anglican Diocese to repent of their sinful support of unrepentant homosexual activity, to no avail. Eventually, his own archbishop sought to pull his license (essentially his ordination or credentials) as a punitive measure.  In the end, Packer, along with roughly thirty Anglican churches , came out from under their “he

John Piper on Gay Marriage

Image
Image via Wikipedia Jesus died so that   heterosexual and homosexual sinners might be saved. Jesus created sexuality, and has a clear will for how it is to be experienced in holiness and joy. His will is that a man might leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and that the two become one flesh (Mark 10:6-9).  In this union, sexuality finds its God -appointed meaning, whether in personal-physical unification, symbolic representation, sensual jubilation, or fruitful procreation. For those who have forsaken God’s path of sexual fulfillment, and walked into homosexual intercourse or heterosexual extramarital fornication or adultery, Jesus offers astonishing mercy. Such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11). But last weekend this salvation from sinful sexual acts was not embraced. Instead there was massive celebration of sin. One estimate said

Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ Health Risk Doctors Warn

Image
Image via Wikipedia A group of physicians has presented to Canadian Parliamentarians scientific evidence that homosexual marriage is a health risk to Canadians.   The heavily referenced brief titled “ Gay Marriage and Homosexuality , Some Medical Comments” warns that the new law will result in the further normalization of homosexual sex which has already resulted in severe health risks and related costs to care for and treat persons affected by risky sexual behaviour.     The document, signed by doctors in different disciplines from family medicine, dermatology and neurology, warns that anal sex as practiced by most gay men, has a large number of diseases associated with it, “many of which are rare or even unknown in the heterosexual population” such as: anal cancer, Chlamydia trachomatis , Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia , Herpes simplex virus, HIV , Human papilloma virus , Isospora belli , Microsporidia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C and others.   Doctors who spoke w

The Case Against Same-Sex Marriage

Image
Image via Wikipedia Anyone not living in a cave has noticed the intensifying attack on traditional marriage.  In Vermont, Canada, and Massachusetts—and now California , with the signing of a de facto gay marriage bill—the war drums against traditional matrimony are beating with ever-growing intensity. The onslaught will not be turned back unless the public is given better, more coherent arguments against same-sex spousal unions. While religion plays an obvious role in the debate, the effectiveness of faith-based arguments is limited because most Westerners care little what the Bible or theologians say. To argue from religion will only convince those who are already convinced and will simply alienate the rest. So how can we assemble a coherent and persuasive case? By steering the discussion back to the historical understanding of marriage’s primary end. In recent generations, we’ve seen the belief evolve that the overriding purpose of marriage is the spouses’ mutual pleasure. This

Ann Coulter Blasts Same-Sex “Marriage”

Image
Image via Wikipedia Conservative commentator Ann Coulter stayed true to her reputation for courting controversy during an address to homosexual conservatives in New York on Saturday, telling them that they did not need special rights and that marriage was the union of a man and a woman. According to reports, Coulter charmed her audience of 150 at the HomoCon fundraiser for GOProud with a number of jokes, admitting that it must have been difficult to come out of the closet and tell their parents that they were conservatives. But then the outspoken pundit said to her audience, “I should warn you: I've never failed to talk gays out of gay marriage." Talking Points Memo reported that Coulter explained to the crowd that she supports marriage as the union of a man and a woman, because the institution is fundamentally about the procreation of children. Coulter then stated frankly that keeping marriage defined and restricted to heterosexual couples does not violate homosexual
