UK government admits 'inappropriate' to argue Bible 'offensive' in case against Christian street preacher

Image
CASE TOSSED OUT AGAINST CHRISTIAN STREET PREACHER ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED HOMOPHOBIA The government of the United Kingdom acknowledged it was "inappropriate" for state prosecutors to argue in court that parts of the Bible are "simply no longer appropriate in modern society and […] would be deemed offensive if stated in public." The Wessex Area of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had made such an argument while attempting to convict Christian street preacher John Dunn of a hate crime earlier this year, according to a press release from the London-based Christian Legal Centre, which represented Dunn. Prosecutors argued that Dunn, a 55-year-old British army special forces veteran who has preached openly for 15 years in the southwestern English town of Swindon, was guilty of hate speech when he offended some members of the public by denouncing homosexuality. The case against Dunn, which could have seen him slapped with a criminal record, was tossed out last month after

Landmark Study Shows Trauma Treatment Significantly Alters Sexual Attraction

Image
Surprising results challenge our assumptions about how fluid sexual attractions are.  A new large-scale, peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Human Sexuality demonstrates that sexual attraction fluidity exploration in therapy significantly decreases unwanted sexual behaviors while improving psychological well-being. Researchers examined 75 adult males who reported same-sex attractions and wished to explore their sexual attraction fluidity. Participants worked with certified therapists using Reintegrative Therapy, a treatment method that seeks to identify and resolve past traumatic memories. “Actively attempting to change one’s sexuality might interfere with this process. Instead, we encourage clients to resolve memories they identify as being traumatic. As we support them through this journey, we let whatever happens naturally happen,” said Dr. Joseph Nicolosi Jr., a licensed clinical psychologist and founder of the Reintegrative Therapy Association, a nonprofit scientific organizatio

Can You Stand for Truth Without Being Offensive?

Image
I often speak on controversial subjects: homosexuality and transgenderism. These aren’t topics that are casually brought up over Christmas dinner and calmly discussed with out-of-town family. That’s why believers often ask me how they can stand for truth on controversial topics without being offensive. Here are three quick things I tell them. Grace First, I’m grateful for their concern to avoid being crass and offensive. I see too many believers who don’t care at all — or at least appear to not care. They use the truth like a club to beat people over the head. Grace? What grace? That’s for Christ to extend to non-believers, they say. But believers should do whatever they can to communicate the truth in a winsome and gracious way. Scripture identifies them as ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor. 5:20). That means they represent Jesus with their life. How they come across to other people will be a reflection upon the good name of Jesus. Believers, therefore, should strive to speak in a warm, f

Decision Striking Down Ban On Minors Seeking Same-Sex Professional Help

Image
With all the focus on the aftermath of the presidential elections, you might have missed an important victory in the courts last week. As   reported   November 20 by Liberty Counsel, which litigated the case successfully, “A three-judge panel of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals struck down laws that ban counselors from providing minor clients with help to reduce or eliminate unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors, or gender confusion.” This was a victory for freedom, for tolerance, for individual rights, and for therapist-client privilege. Above all, it was a victory for minors. Liberty Counsel, led by Mat Staver, represented “Dr. Robert Otto, LMFT and Dr. Julie Hamilton, LMFT and their minor clients who challenged the constitutionality of ordinances enacted by the City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County which prohibit minors from voluntary counseling from licensed professionals.” These local, Florida ordinances were part of a disturbing national trend that prohibits minors wit

‘What’s Right And Wrong’ As Jen Hatmaker Celebrates Daughter’s Lesbian Identity

Image
Jen Hatmaker recently celebrated her daughter’s lesbian identity, saying, “I’m so glad you’re gay.” Many say that we cannot take a position on homosexuality because all positions will hurt someone. Here’s my question: “Are those who defend homosexuality, or who say nothing, truly loving the homosexual, or are they simply seeking to avoid conflict?” If they are more worried about being liked than being truthful, do they really care for homosexuals more than the person who is willing to risk their reputation, and quite possibly their safety, in order to speak the truth in love? The answer is obvious: Authentic Christians love the truth, and others, so much so that they are willing to risk the consequences of confrontation in order to help others. This is genuine love, not hatred. “When we become so tolerant that we lead people into the mental fog and spiritual darkness, we are not acting like Christians—we are acting like cowards” (A.W. Tozer). Many who support their childre

Trans Court Madness

Image
Staunch conservatives have slammed yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County, which redefined the term “sex” in the 1964 Civil Rights Act to mean not simply “male” and “female” as biological facts, but also “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.” Josh Hammer of First Liberty Institute called the decision by six justices, including Trump nominee Neil Gorsuch, the “Roe v. Wade of religious liberty.” “Bostock is no joke, and it lays bare the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the conservative legal movement,” he added. Hammer demanded, “a more forceful conservative legal movement, just as willing as the left to make moral arguments in court, based on principles of justice, natural law (the rules embedded in our very nature as human beings), the common good and the religious and moral traditions underlying Anglo-American constitutional order.” Speaking of Gorsuch’s majority opinion, he said it did not at all qualify as textualism, a legal philosophy

Gay Trans court blunder to destroy religious freedom

Image
In a controversial decision, the United States Supreme Court has held by 6-3, in Bostock v Clayton County, Georgia (No. 17–1618; June 15, 2020), that the prohibition of “sex discrimination” in the workplace in Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 means that an employer cannot discriminate on the basis of “sexual orientation” or “gender identity”. Both majority and minority focus strongly on the issues of how statutes should be interpreted.  In my view, the concerns expressed by the minority about the “literal” approach of the majority judgment are well-justified, as are the possible detrimental implications for religious freedom in the USA. I will also comment briefly on how similar issues would be resolved in Australia. The Facts The judgment of the Court relates to not one, but three separate claims. Without going into the details, two of these claims involve an employee dismissed on account of his homosexuality; the third involved an employee dismissed on the
