Is homosexuality the greatest sin?

Image
There is a sense in which all sin is the same. Every sin is an act of rebellion against God . Any sin, no matter whether it is an angry thought or outright murder, is a declaration of independence from God, a means of saying, “I am going to do this my way instead of your way.   I choose my will rather than your will.”  In that sense every sin is sufficient to justify an eternity of separation from God . Every sin grieves God and arouses his just wrath. God hates sin because his very nature is contrary to sin. This is not God being mean or arbitrary, but God simply giving us the wages due to our rebellion. However, it is equally correct to express that some sins are more serious than others. Certain sins are more significant than others because the consequences are more significant. We observe this in the New Testament , in Paul’s description of sin in Romans 1.  Here we see the progression of sin so that as people are given over to their sin and rebellion, they progress i

Documentary shows beauty in the struggle against same-sex attraction

Image
Español: Intercambio de anillos entre los novios (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) There’s a saying about changing the world by telling a good story. When first clicking on the link to watch the newly-released  Desire of the Everlasting Hills , you might be suspecting some syrupy presentation on preserving the environment, or perhaps a knockoff of  Heaven is for Real . But a few minutes into the film you immediately become drawn into the lives of three individuals — Paul, Dan, and Rilene — who candidly lay bare their souls as they describe their journey through life with same-sex attraction . A little more than halfway through the 60-minute film, you’ll very likely find yourself crying as they share their testimony to God ’s grace breaking through and changing their lives. By the end, you’ll probably be thanking God that you were able to witness the power of His transforming love in the lives of these people who courageously and humbly tell their stories. Homosexuality: Suppressing the Truth in Unrighteousness: Matthew Vines Takes on the New Testament

Image
Immoral gender symbols, sexual orientation: heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality. Rejected by scripture (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Author: Denny Burk Matthew Vines’s treatment of New Testament texts about homosexuality focuses on three passages: Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10. In doing so, however, he fails to account for the larger context of Scripture and its teaching on marriage and sexuality.  Instead, he writes at length trying to disprove the notion that any of these verses really condemns what we now call homosexuality. Against a 2,000-year-old consensus within the Christian church, Vines contends that these verses do not mean what they appear to mean — that homosexuality is fallen and sinful and completely incompatible with following Christ. Vines argues that if these verses were properly understood, everyone would see that there’s nothing inherently sinful about homosexual orientation or behavior. Thus, there is no biblical reason to pr

Homosexuality equals a debased mind

Image
The Reformed Church of France, Paris, France (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) ROMANS 1:28 "Since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done," Homosexual behavior, in particular, demonstrates the exchange of what is good and natural according to God's created order forth at which is evil and unnatural. Thus, it is an especially blatant form of idolatry, of telling the Creator that one will not have Him as Lord but will worship and serve the creature (Rom. 1:24-27).  This sexual twisting, however, is not the primal sin of humanity rather, it is the ethical outworking of the fundamental transgression, namely, the refusal to honor and thank God (vv.18-23).  Furthermore, homosexual behavior is not the only way our fundamentally idolatrous dispositions show themselves. There are innumerable ways in which idolatry bears unethical fruit. Romans 1:28, introduces the vice list Paul provides in Romans 1:29-31,

What does the New Testament say about Homosexuality?

Image
In Romans 1:18–32 Paul writes of the wrath of God that has been revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness. The reason for His wrath is that people have perverted the revelation of God. This perversion substituted the glory of the true God with gods made in images of people and birds and animals and crawling creatures, which people themselves made. As a result, God passed sentence on the world. Three times Paul says that God gave people over to various lusts and perversions, which include homosexuality and lesbianism (Rom. 1:24, 26, 28). “For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error” (Rom. 1:26–27). Notice the words Paul uses to describe lesbianism and homosexua

High Court Sir Paul Coleridge stood down because he supports traditional marriage and not immoral homosexual marriage

Image
News that Sir Paul Coleridge, High Court Judge , has stood down, after being reprimanded for his comments in support of marriage, may reflect a liberal bias at the top of British civic life. The implied suggestion that Sir Paul may have acted in a way unbecoming of a Court official , simply by sharing his frustration at the breakdown of marriages and the impact this has on children, is tantamount to an admission that so-called traditional marriage is no longer considered a norm worthy of protection. Whilst Sir Paul could have continued in his position with the High Court for another five years, he has said that his position is now untenable. He could not, he says, properly fulfil his duties if he felt he had to constantly look over his shoulder. It is outrageous that a judge should be reprimanded for speaking up for one of the major foundations of our social order . Surely if judges are allowed to speak about anything, it should be the defence of the social order they are installe

Main homosexual argumewnt against the Bible prohibition

Image
Jesus is considered by scholars such as Weber to be an example of a charismatic religious leader. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Pro-homosexual activists dismiss the OT prohibition on Homosexuality because it comes from Leviticus where eating certain foods and wearing certain types of clothing were also forbidden in the OT but today are ignored.  Often, pro-homosexual activists dismiss Christians as inconsistent because “they pick and choose which of the rules in the Bible to obey.” The argument proceeds along the lines of, “Christians ignore lots of OT texts—about not eating raw meat or pork or shellfish, not executing people for breaking the Sabbath, not wearing garments woven with two kinds of material, and so on. Aren’t they just picking and choosing what they want to believe from the Bible?” The root of the issue is the perceived inconsistency regarding rules mentioned in the OT that are no longer practiced by the NT people of God . Most Christians don’t know how to respon

Ministry study shows effectiveness of counselling in reducing homosexuality

Image
According to the survey, which was released Friday, 55 percent of those who sought out this kind of counselling experienced SSA with less intensity and frequency than before they received help. Additionally, 71 percent of those surveyed said they were either "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with the counselling they received. "Hundreds of people are telling us their counselling worked, they benefited significantly, it helped them feel better about themselves -- and in some cases it even saved their lives," said Rich Wyler , founder and director of People Can Change, in a statement. "Their voices have been largely silenced or ignored by pro-gay activists and mainstream media in favour of a more politically correct view, but the experience of these men and women is real. It is valid. They can tell you from firsthand experience that counselling to reduce homosexuality can be effective, even life-saving. Their voluntary choice to pursue change deserves
