Landmark study proves homosexuality is strongly linked to sex abuse

Image
A new report dares to ask the question those in authority in the Catholic Church have assiduously avoided for decades: Is there a correlation between the presence of a high proportion of homosexuals in the priesthood and the incidence of clergy sex abuse? The report also examines how “homosexual subcultures” within Catholic seminaries may have contributed to creating an environment where homosexual clergy were more likely to abuse minors. “Although over 8 in 10 of victims have been boys, the idea that the abuse is related to homosexual men in the priesthood has not been widely accepted by Church leaders,” wrote Father Paul Sullins, a retired Catholic University of America (CUA) sociology professor, in a new report for the Ruth Institute. “The data show that more homosexual men in the priesthood was correlated with more overall abuse and more boys abused compared to girls.” Sullins’ report is titled Is Catholic clergy sex abuse related to homosexual priests? The priest said in a re

Pro-homosexual Fr. Martin should not be in ‘position of responsibility’: evangelical bible scholar

Evangelical Bible and homosexuality scholar   Robert Gagnon   adds his voice to the widespread Catholic criticism of Vatican communications consultant Fr. James Martin over Martin's pro-LGBT advocacy. In April,   Pope Francis appointed   the socially “progressive” priest consultor to the Vatican’s Secretariat for Communication. Gagnon, author of " The Bible and Homosexual Practice : Texts and Hermeneutics," said   Martin , editor-at-large at   America   magazine, “has no business being in a position of responsibility in the Catholic Church .” He was reacting to Martin’s interview last week with a   San Francisco “gay” newspaper,   Bay Area Reporter , in which he claimed that among the reasons that people have reacted “viciously” to his   “bridge-building” efforts   toward homosexuals is that they have “visceral disgust at same-sex relations” or “hatred of LGBT people .” The most important reason, Martin said, is that his opponents potentially have “discomfort

Fourteen gay Anglican priests urge bishops to take lead on inclusion

Fourteen Church of England priests who have married their same sex partners have urged Anglican bishops to be bold and take the church forward in its stance on homosexuality and gay marriage. But forward into a sinful abyss is the only direction left for it. The direction is away from God and scripture. Their move follows the bishop of Grantham’s disclosure that he is in a same-sex relationship. Nicholas Chamberlain is the first bishop to openly declare that he is gay. The gay and lesbian clergy, plus an additional eight lay members of the church in same sex marriages, signed a letter to bishops – who are meeting next week – urging them to “give a clear lead that offers a way forward to greater inclusion” of LGBTI people in the church. It adds: “We encourage you to be bold, and to be honest about what many of you already believe from your own experience, and to what you know to be increasingly the direction of travel, not just in our church but in many churches in this country.” Eig

New Jersey archbishop removes priest from ministry for LGBT activism

A Catholic archbishop has suspended an openly homosexual priest in the wake of his ongoing support for LGBT causes. Father Warren Hall tweeted Wednesday that Newark Archbishop John Myers suspended him from priestly ministry, meaning he is no longer permitted to publicly offer Mass or present himself as a priest. Hall told Religion News Service that Myers suspended him for supporting a former Catholic high school employee who was fired for being in a same-sex “marriage.” The woman, Kate Drumgoole, is suing Paramus Catholic High School. Earlier this week, Myers released a letter  supporting the school . “It seems that many have equated, mistakenly, the Church’s position of welcoming sinners (for we are all sinners) with the notion that we accept teaching and lifestyles contrary to the principles of our faith that can create scandal in our Church,” the archbishop wrote. “Much has been said in recent days about respect, diversity, and mercy. … For decades I have taught and writte
