A Catholic school board in Ontario will vote next week on a motion to fly the rainbow-colored homosexual pride flag at all board-run schools during the month of June. Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) Trustee Brenda Agnew gave notice of her motion titled “supporting our diverse school community” during an April 6 board meeting. Quoting Pope Francis along with LGBT talking points about “equity and inclusion,” the motion calls for the Board’s Director of Education Pat Daly to “direct all HCDSB schools including the Catholic Education Centre to fly the Pride flag during the month of June starting with 2021.” The motion is expected to be voted on by the Board at their next meeting on April 20. With nine trustees, the motion requires five votes to pass. A tied vote results in a fail. Every so often, the mainstream media hands us a story that so perfectly displays their contempt for Christians in the United States that it almost necessitates an educational diagnosis. Earlier this week, NBC News produced one such story, sporting the foreboding title “Betsy DeVos visits school with explicit anti-transgender policy.” Trump’s transphobes are on the move, and NBC is on the case. As it turns out, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has been visiting various schools this week for a “2019 Back-to-School” tour, and one school she dropped in on was the Harrisburg Catholic Elementary School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. While there, she joined a round-table to promote the Educational Improvement Tax Credit, which is designed to assist students from lower-income brackets with scholarships so that they can attend private schools. An Indiana archbishop has stripped a Jesuit-run school of its Catholic label after the school refused the archbishop’s directive that it not renew a teacher’s contract who had ‘married’ a same-sex partner.  Two summers ago, a teacher from Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School “married” a same-sex partner. The fact became publicly known via social media. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis, led by Archbishop Charles Thompson, requested around the same time that the school not renew the teacher’s contract because the teacher’s lifestyle contradicted Catholic sexual and moral teaching.  The school refused to follow the directive.  Because of this, Archbishop Thompson issued a decree on June 20 that he no longer recognizes Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School as a Catholic institution. “The Catholic Church teaches that Catholic schools are integral to the mission of the Church to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and to be places of learning where students encounter the living Christ

Expecting Catholic school employees to abide by long-standing Catholic morals will be added to the legal understanding of “discrimination,” if a case currently before the Alberta Human Rights Commission succeeds against Calgary Catholic School District. At issue is the district’s language in teacher contracts that holds them to “Catholic values,” particularly a “lifestyle and deportment in harmony with Catholic teaching and principles.” The Calgary Herald reports that Barb Hamilton, a former principal in the district, is one of two people suing over the requirement; another teacher has chosen to remain anonymous. Hamilton has filed her human-rights complaints on “marital status, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation” grounds, Catholic News Agency reports . “Their perspective is I resigned and my perspective is I wasn’t given a choice,” she claims. “Relationships that would be acceptable are those recognized by the Catholic Church, that have to be acknowledged by a Catholic priest

The Niagara Catholic District School Board is facing a media spotlight and suggestions of “ transphobia ” for canceling performances of a play about gender identity that were booked in five elementary schools. Produced by the St. Catharines -based Carousel Playhouse, which lists Pride Niagara as a community partner, the play is called   Boys, Girls and Other Mythological Creatures  and features an 8-year-old boy who dresses as a girl and questions his gender. The cancellations came within 48 hours of the first performance of the play in the Catholic school district, for Grades 1 to 4 students at Mary Ward School on April 25. That prompted  Carousel Playhouse   artistic director Jessica Carmichael and playwright Mark Crawford to post open letters on the theatre website questioning the board’s motivation. “In the play, Simon(e) feels boxed in by the restraints of gender,” wrote  Carmichael . “I fear these cancellations may be based on misinformation, grown out of fear,
