‘Legal anarchy’: County clerks flout Colorado marriage law, give licenses to gay couples

Image
Colorado 's high-tension marriage debate hit a new peak this week, as three county clerks and a county judge ignored state law defining marriage as between a man and a woman. On Wednesday, Boulder District Judge Andrew Hartman  ruled  that Boulder Colorado Clerk Hillary Hall could continue to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Hall has been giving out licenses to same-sex couples  since June 25 . The Denver and Pueblo County Clerks joined Hall in handing out the marriage licenses after Hartman's ruling. Youtube screenshot Hall began handing out the licenses after the 10th Circuit Court ruled that a state marriage amendment in nearby Utah was unconstitutional. However, that ruling was given a stay by the same court. Utah has already appealed the decision, and the case is expected to be heard by either the full 10th Circuit Court or the U.S. Supreme C

Christian baker must make ‘wedding’ bakes for gay couples, court rules

DENVER, CO ,  – A Colorado board has ruled that a Christian business owner must make wedding cakes for homosexual "marriages" despite his religious objections. Business owner Jack Phillips came under legal fire in 2012, when he refused to bake a cake for Dave Mullins and Charlie Craig , who had traveled to Massachusetts for a marriage license, and wanted to celebrate in their home state. They sued on the basis of a state law that prevents the application of religious beliefs if one owns a business. The Commission's ruling, which was issued verbally on Friday, orders Phillips to report every three months for the next two years on anti-discrimination training for his staff, and any customers who are refused service at his establishment. "I can believe anything I want, but if I'm going to do business here, I'd ought to not discriminate against people," said one of the Civil Rights Commission 's seven members in a public statement. Pro-family leaders defend true marriage against lawsuits in Oklahoma and Michigan

DENVER, CO, February 25, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – On “The Simpsons,” Helen Lovejoy  frequently cries out , “Won't somebody  please  think of the children?” In Michigan and Oklahoma, that's exactly what pro-family lawsuits are trying to force judges to do – realize how heterosexual couples benefit the next generation. This week, Alliance Defending Freedom   filed a lawsuit  with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, Colorado in defense of a Tulsa, Oklahoma County Court Clerk . The clerk, Sally Howe, was sued by two women to whom she refused to issue a marriage license.  Federal judge Terence Kern ruled in favor of the women in January. The "Oklahoma Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment ," he said.  However, Alliance Defending Freedom says children should be raised in homes with parents of different sexes. The state of Oklahoma , which is also appealing Kern's dec

Colorado cake maker appeals court order to participate in same-sex ‘weddings’

DENVER , January 9, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) — A Colorado cake artist who was ordered to make cakes for same-sex ceremonies has filed an  appeal , asserting his religous rights under the First Amendment . In December, Judge Robert Spencer of the Colorado Administrative Law Court  ruled  that the cake artist  must bake cakes for same-sex "wedding" ceremonies  - and then prove that he has complied. In July 2012, Charlie Craig and David Mullins asked Jack Phillips , owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, to make a wedding cake to celebrate their same-sex ceremony. In an exchange lasting about 30 seconds, Phillips politely declined, explaining that he would gladly make them any other type of baked item they wanted but that he could not make a cake promoting a same-sex ceremony because of his faith. Craig and Mullins, now represented by the American Civil Liberties Union , immediately left the shop and later filed a  complaint  with the Colorado Civil Rights Division . Phill

Utah won’t recognize 1000+ gay ‘marriages’ contracted after judge struck down marriage amendment

SALT LAKE CITY , January 8, 2014 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has halted gay “marriage” in Utah , the governor has moved to vigorously enforce state law, which is supported by the vast majority of state citizens. In 2004, 66 percent of state voters approved  Amendment 3  to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman in the state Constitution . On December 20, the Friday before Christmas, U.S. District Judge Robert J. Shelby ,  an Obama appointee, struck down Utah's constitutional marriage protection amendment . Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has halted gay “marriage” in Utah, the governor has moved to vigorously enforce state law, which is supported by the vast majority of state citizens. Shelby had indicated he would not rule until January 7. At the time of his ruling, just before Christmas break, the state did not have a  bona fide  attorney general. Governor Gary Herbert, a Republican , immediately began working with Acting Att

Homosexual take baker to court

(I was their first cake decorator) (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) A baker in suburban Denver must make cakes for same-sex weddings or face fines, according to a judge’s ruling last week. Judge Robert N. Spencer denied the bakery owner’s claim that he was exercising his freedoms of religion and speech when he told a gay couple he would not make their wedding cake . Spencer instead ordered him to “ cease and desist from discriminating” or face fines ranging from $50 to $500 per person per incident, according to the bakery owner’s attorney. This decision sends a boding message to other small businesses, especially those in the wedding industry such as florists, bakers , photographers, and event venues, putting them in a troubling standoff between freedom of religion and anti-discrimination laws. The baker, Jack Phillips, told WORLD he has support from loyal customers and many in the community. When asked how business has been days

Homosexual Zealots use Judge to force Marriage Cake baker to bake or go to jail

Since the age of the French Revolution , the phrase " Let them eat cake " has been used as a symbol of out-of-touch, tyrannical elites or aristocracies. The phrase comes from a popular anecdote that a monarch (often identified as Marie Antoinette ), when told that the peasants had no bread to eat and were starving, proposed this as the solution: "Let them eat cake." Well, ironically in our own day the phrase is once again a fitting a symbol of an out-of-touch, tyrannical government: this time in the form of a Colorado Judge who ruled that a baker in Denver must provide wedding cakes to same-sex couples... or else pay the price. The decision from Administrative Law Judge Robert Spencer in Denver, CO is like a chilling flashback for anyone concerned about the first amendment protections of freedom of religion and expression — a flashback to a similar decision earlier this year in the case of Elane Photography in New Mexico . Before talking about this new case deal

(Photo credit: Wikipedia ) DENVER,  – A Denver cake baker who was   ordered   by a judge last week to service same-sex “weddings” or face punishing fines has told Fox News that he would rather shut down his business and serve jail time than violate his beliefs and play a role in facilitating gay nuptials. In an  interview  with Fox’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck , cake maker Jack Phillips said, “You know, [I’ll serve jail time if] that’s what it takes.  It’s not like I have chosen this team or that team. This is who I am, it’s what I believe.” “Does becoming a business owner mean you have to check your convictions at the door?” Hasselbeck asked. “Why is it important for you to have a business and not have to abandon personal religious beliefs just to make a buck?” “I don't plan on giving up my religious beliefs ... I don't feel that I should participate in their wedding, and when I do a cake, I feel like I'
