Labor MP Susan Close, introduced the bill on Thursday, partly to mark the birthday of her brother who is gay. Should a personal moral agenda dictate to the rest of the State? Do these politicians do any work, do they represent themselves or their community or their own biased opinions? She strongly supports the reforms but concedes the issue will ultimately be determined by the courts. 'It's not a constitutional problem in the sense that it's perfectly okay for a state to have legislation relating marriage. The issue will only be if the High Court determines that the commonwealth has covered the field in defining marriage as between a man and a woman.
