Australian law bans speech vilifying opponents in gay ‘marriage’ debate

Australian parliament is expected to pass a temporary law this week making it illegal to “vilify” or “intimidate” supporters and opponents of same-sex “marriage” as the country braces for a non-binding postal vote on the issue. The bill applies to content produced by the “yes” and “no” campaigns.   “It includes measures to prevent vilification, intimidation, or threats to cause harm on the basis of the sexual orientation, gender identity, intersex status or the religious convictions of someone during the survey period,” the Australian Broadcasting Corporation  reported . Leaders in Christianity , Judaism , and Islam gathered in Jerusalem to protest the World Pride festival , an event organized by gay leaders to promote tolerance and diversity. As The New York Times noted, “interfaith agreement is unusual in Israel ”; it was the protest of a gay rights festival in which these leaders found common ground. When the first World Pride festival took place in Rome, Pope publicly conveyed his distaste for the event.  The clash between religion and the advancement of the gay rights movement is also present and has taken the form of litigation.  Religious Freedom and Homosexual rights are and will clash.
