Isn't the ban on Homosexuality an Old Testament law only?

Image
Aren't Christians being selective with Old Testament  law when they appeal to it with respect to homosexuality, while ignoring Old Testament commands about clothing, food, etc.? In some sense, yes, because we are singling out the moral law , which is exactly what the New Testament trains us to do. The book of Acts  distinctly separates the ceremonial and liturgical laws from the moral law. The Lord told Peter not to distinguish between clean and unclean animals any longer (Acts 10:9-16).  At the same time, the Jerusalem Council clearly confirmed the continuation of the moral law (Acts 15).  Paul tells us the gospel is for the Gentiles as well as for the Jews, which obliterates that distinction in the holiness code. Nevertheless, Paul regularly returns to the moral law of the Old Testament to show and defend the character of righteous living in general and the commandments against same-sex acts in particular (Romans 1).  If we still depended on the Levitical code for

Pink Cross Homosexuals claim pastor at Marriage seminar teaching hate must be arrested and jailed

Many people still have their head in the sand when it comes to the damage that the US Supreme Court's illegitimate ruling redefining marriage will eventually mean for religious liberty and people of faith. Let me just say it directly, this is what is coming: Your pastor or priest could be arrested and jailed for preaching the gospel. Think I am exaggerating? Think again: A high ranking Catholic Bishop, His Excellency Vitus Huonder, Bishop of Chur , Switzerland, is now facing criminal charges brought by a homosexual advocacy group that could result in him being incarcerated in prison for three years because he publicly defended the Church's teaching about marriage. We're going to eventually see this kind of persecution here in the United States unless we pass the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) to protect ministers, churches, religious organizations, nonprofit groups, individuals and small businesses. Bishop Huonder's 'crime' was to speak at a conference

Gay activists sue Swiss Catholic bishop for inciting violence after he quotes Bible

August 11, 2015 -- A homosexual activist group called Pink Cross, the umbrella organization of Swiss male homosexuals , has announced that it will file a lawsuit against Bishop Vitus Huonder of Chur, Switzerland . The organization claims that Huonder had publicly called for crimes against homosexuals by quoting the Book of Leviticus at a recent conference in Fulda, Germany . Bishop Huonder had given this talk on July 31 at a conservative Catholic conference organized by a lay organization, Forum Deutscher Katholiken, that is opposed to the proposals to change and liberalize the Catholic Church's moral teaching on marriage and the family. The conference, “Rejoicing in the Faith” (Freude am Glauben), published a  communiqué  in which it asks the pope and Synod Fathers to “find answers taken from the sources of knowledge of the Holy Scripture and the Church's Tradition which fill today's life reality of the faithful with new Christian spirit.” The conference com

What does the Bible really say about Homosexuality?

Image
Español: Intercambio de anillos entre los novios (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) The Bible says nothing specifically about the homosexual condition (despite the rather misleading RSV translation of 1 Cor. 6:9), but its condemnations of homosexual conduct are explicit. The scope of these strictures must, however, be carefully determined. Too often they have been used as tools of a homophobic polemic which has claimed too much. The exegesis of the Sodom and Gibeah stories (Gn. 19:1–25; Jdg. 19:13–20:48) is a good case in point. We must resist D. S. Bailey’s widely-quoted claim that the sin God punished on these occasions was a breach of hospitality etiquette without sexual overtones (it fails to explain adequately both the double usage of the word ‘know’ (yāḏa‘) and the reason behind the substitutionary offer of Lot’s daughters and the Levite’s concubine); but neither account amounts to a wholesale condemnation of all homosexual acts. On both occasions the sin condemned was attempted hom

Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, and a "man who lies with a man"

English: Israel Map - Lev HaSharon Regional Council עברית: מפת ישראל - מועצה אזורית לב השרון (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Lev. 18:22 ‘You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination ." ( NASB ) "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." ( ESV , NKJV ) Clearly, the Old Testament condemns homosexuality.  What else does it mean when it says "you shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female"?  The term "lie with" here refers to sexual intercourse in the phrase "lie with a male as one lies with a female."  It is an abomination.  The word here is  תֹּועֵבָה   towʿebah ,  toʿebah. 117 occurrences; AV translates as "abomination" 113 times, "abominable thing" twice, and "abominable" twice. 1 a disgusting thing, abomination, abominable. 1a in ritual sense (of unclean food, idols, mixed marriages). 1b in ethical sense (of wickedness etc. ). 1

Should homosexuals, gays, and lesbians be put to death?

No, homosexuals , gays, and lesbians should not be put to death. We don't live under the  Old Testament  Law in which the moral and civil requirements are both in effect. Instead, as Christians we are to pray for the salvation of those who are lost in their sexual  sin . We are to treat them with dignity as is befitting people who are made in the  image of God  (Genesis 1:26). However, we are not to support legislation that gives them special rights, nor are we to support a redefinition of  marriage . Furthermore, there is no New Testament admonition to kill homosexuals. In fact, when Jesus dealt with the adulterous woman who, under Old Testament law would've been put to death ( Lev. 20:10), Jesus forgave her and told her to go and sin no more ( John 8:3-11 ).  But then, what do we do about the Bible saying to kill homosexuals? "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be

Apply the “Sexual Sin Substitution” Test for Moral Clarity 1) Decide Whether You are with God or Against Him … on the issue of homosexualism (out-and-proud homosexuality as a “civil right”) and sexual sin in general. These days there is no shortage of Secular- and Religious Left activists — and even self-professed “ evangelical Christian ” sellouts like apostate Jay Bakker — who will tell you that the Bible is ambiguous on homosexuality or even pro-homosexual. Nevertheless, the Word of God is crystal clear on this subject (see Romans 1 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 , for starters). No faithful Christian can make a “biblical” case for accepting homosexual behavior. Thankfully, Jesus Christ has helped many men [e.g., Dan Hitz] and women [e.g., Anne Paulk ] overcome homosexual attractions (see Point 4 below). Two great websites refuting “gay Christianity” are Prof. Robert Gagnon’s at www.RobGagnon.net and (former homosexual) DL Foster’s “Gay Christian Movement Watch” at http://www.gcmwat

What does the Old Testament say about homosexuality?

Image
Homosexuality is mentioned eight times in the Scriptures (four in each testament), and lesbianism (homosexuality between females) one time. In no instance is it commended; instead it is always described as wrong and unnatural. The first instance, the account of Lot in Sodom , is debated as to whether or not it refers to homosexuality (Gen. 19:4–11). With the growing prominence of the homosexual movement, it is now being said that the sin was not homosexuality but inhospitality and gang rape. The claim goes that when Lot received the two angels (who appeared as men and were strangers to the residents of Sodom), he angered the locals because no one had examined their credentials. So when the locals demanded to “know” them (v. 5), they only wanted to get acquainted with them. Lot, however, was bound to be hospitable to the strangers and to protect his guests, so he offered to sacrifice his daughters to the crowd. And had not the angels blinded the men of the city, then gang rape would h

False Homosexual arguments

The prohibition against homosexuality is not found solely in this one passage. Leviticus 20 expands on the sin and decrees the death penalty “if a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman” for “both of them have done what is detestable” (v. 13). The New Testament Book of Romans speaks of homosexual acts as a “degrading of their bodies with one another” and calls such passions “shameful lusts” that lead to “indecent acts” (Rom. 1:24–27). Whatever moderns say about homosexuality, the Bible clearly identifies this sexual practice as sin. As Christians, living in a secular society rather than in Israel’s “society under God,” we can take a moral stand on what is right. But probably we will not be able to criminalize homosexuality. As for those outside the Christian community who practice it, their real spiritual need is for Jesus Christ . With them, we need to keep the focus not so much on this sin as on the message of forgiveness for all sins that comes with personal faith
