University ‘diversity’ administrator placed on leave after signing marriage petition

Washington, D.C., October 16, 2012  – The Chief Diversity Officer of Gallaudet University has been placed on administrative leave after a homosexual blogger publicized the fact that she signed a petition to support Question 6, a Maryland ballot measure that would send the same-sex “marriage” law recently passed by the state legislature to voters for a referendum. Angela McCaskill, who lives in Maryland, is the first Chief Diversity Officer at the university for the deaf and hard-of-hearing , and was the first black deaf woman to be awarded a Ph.D. from the school. She reportedly signed the petition after her pastor, Lee P. Washington of Reid Temple AME Church , preached against same-sex “marriage” during a sermon.  Angela McCaskill was dismissed from her position after supporting a referendum on gay "marriage." “Dr. McCaskill has participated in a legislative initiative that some feel is inappropriate for an individual serving as Chief Diversity Officer,” said

Maryland governor signs same-sex ‘marriage’ bill as referendum clears first hurdle

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland , March 1, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - The governor of Maryland has signed a new law extending the definition of marriage to include homosexual couples one day after opponents were given the green light to collect signatures for an initiative to put the marriage question to state voters . The bill was approved in a 25-22 Senate vote after only 48 hours of deliberation on Feb. 23, six days after it passed the House of Delegates. Gov. Martin O’Malley’s signature makes Maryland the seventh state to redefine marriage, in addition to the District of Columbia . Gov. Martin O'Malley Meanwhile, traditional marriage supporters have already made headway bringing the issue to voters: Mary Cramer Wagner, director of the board’s Voter Registration Division, told the Baltimore Sun on Wednesday that petition drafts filed by the Maryland Marriage Alliance and a Maryland delegate have been deemed compliant with state petition regulations. Traditional marriage supporters said

What’s at stake in the ‘same-sex marriage’ debate?

The law cannot be divorced from reality, from nature. The moment this happens, law becomes arbitrary, the whim of the ruling power: it becomes tyranny. Last week, the Maryland Senate passed the Civil Marriage Protection Act by a 25–22 vote. The Maryland House of Delegates had passed the bill on Friday, February 17, by a 71–67 vote, and Governor Martin O’Malley has vowed to sign it. This bill will grant the legal status of marriage to any two non-related consenting adults, irrespective of their sex. Why is this important, and how does it affect even those who do not live in Maryland ? Isn’t it best just to let people do what they want with their lives and leave well enough alone, as long as we are left in peace to do what we want with our lives? That’s a pipedream. This law is a misnomer, and its passage signals the destruction of, not greater protection for, marriage. Let me explain why. Nature Matters First, let’s step back from the rhetoric and define our terms. Fundamentally,

Gay marriage push in Maryland

Image via Wikipedia February 3, 2012 (HLIAmerica.org) - Shouts of “kill this bill” and “one man, one woman” thundered throughout Lawyer’s Mall in Annapolis on Monday night. Also known as the State House Square, it is situated between the Maryland State House and the Governor’s residence, and it was to both that the crowd, estimated at more than 2,000 people, was directing its cries. Once again, marriage is under threat in the state of Maryland . The Civil Marriage Protection Act , which would redefine marriage as including unions by two people of the same sex, was defeated last year but has been resurrected, this time with the endorsement of Maryland’s Governor, Martin O’Malley . And the pressure is on. First Lady Catherine Curran O’Malley, referring to the defeat of last year’s failed attempt, blamed it on “ some cowards ,” a statement she quickly  regretted , as it fueled the determination of the current bill’s opponents and cast a shadow over the noble sheen of “ understanding,

The Church according to Governor O’Malley

Image via Wikipedia Maryland’s Governor Martin O’Malley ’s recently announced his decision to support a bill to legalize gay “marriage” in the upcoming Maryland legislative session.  This decision has been a spectacle, to be sure, considering his professed Catholic faith .  But perhaps more shocking than his flip-flop on the issue is where this “evolution” of thinking has led him—to a place of complete contradiction with himself. When his decision drew  immediate criticism  from the Catholic Conference of Maryland and from Baltimore Archbishop Edwin O’Brien , who called the act one of “pure political expediency,” O’Malley responded in a letter, saying, among other things, that he has come to view the policy of treating same-sex relationships different from marriages as “unjust.”  In doing so he declared his sincere willingness to be seen as a sham from both sides of the gay marriage issue. For if it is true that it is “unjust” to leave marriage as it is and has existed for millennia,

Catholic Maryland governor rejects bishop’s exhortation not to support gay ‘marriage’

Image via Wikipedia BALTIMORE, MD , August 17, 2011  – Edwin O’Brien , the archbishop of Baltimore , isn’t happy with the Catholic governor of Maryland ’s decision to sponsor homosexual “marriage” legislation, but the governor has said that has no intention of backing down. A July letter from Archbishop Edwin O’Brien to Governor Martin O’Malley , a Democrat, and an August 4 written response by the governor, were both  posted  on the governor’s blog last Tuesday. In his original letter Archbishop O’Brien challenged Governor O’Malley to act in line with his faith and not to support homosexual “marriage,” suggesting that the governor was acting out of “mere political expediency.” “Preserving the central role of the natural family unit has always been — and should continue to be — the reason why our government recognizes marriage as existing between one man and one woman,” he said. O’Brien suggested that the July passage of similar legislation in New York has intensified pressure on

Archbishop speaks out as Catholic Maryland Gov. pushes gay ‘marriage’

The archbishop of Baltimore is warning Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley that he will have a vigorous fight on his hands if he tries to legalize same-sex “marriage.”  The governor had announced Friday that he is making gay “marriage” a legislative priority, following the success of gay activists in New York . “Maryland is not New York,” wrote Archbishop Edwin O’Brien of Baltimore in a statement to LifeSiteNews Tuesday.  “During the 2011 session, Maryland lawmakers chose not to redefine marriage because they listened to their Maryland constituents and stood by their deeply-held moral convictions.” A Maryland same-sex “marriage” bill passed the State senate in February, but it failed in the House of Delegates in March.  At that time, Gov. O’Malley had promised to sign the bill if the House had approved it. But he has now pledged to step up his efforts following the example of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo , a fellow nominal Catholic.  “There are times in Annapolis when a governor’s s

Andrew Cuomo ’s success last month. “I certainly plan to be very active in support of it, and we’ll have other announcements in upcoming months,” Gov. O’Malley said Friday at a meeting for the National Governors Association in Salt Lake City . But now O’Malley has pledged to step up his efforts, following Gov.
