Archdiocese was within rights to fire gay music minister, judge rules

A federal judge ruled in favor of the Archdiocese of Chicago and one of its parishes in a lawsuit filed by a former employee claiming discrimination for being fired after publicly announcing his same-sex “engagement” in 2014. Colin Collette  was fired from Holy Family parish in Inverness in July 2014 after he had worked there for 17 years as music director and director of worship.  He refused a request by his pastor to resign  after his “engagement” with his male partner was made known on social media. The late Cardinal Francis George was archbishop at the time. The archdiocese  said  when Collette was fired that those working in Church ministries, including worship ministers, are expected to conform their lives publicly with the teachings of the Church, and that “This is a matter of personal integrity on their part.” Citing the ministerial exception, U.S. District Judge Charles P. Kocoras granted the motion for summary judgment sought in the case by the archdiocese and

Homosexual acts cannot be approved or celebrated by the Church – Here’s why

English: Drawing of a Macaroni or Molly, an 18th Century term for effeminate homosexual. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) In recent years, homosexuality has frequently been in the news. An increasingly nationwide effort to make homosexual acts something to celebrate has gained great ground and sowed serious confusion even among those who describe themselves as Christian and Catholic. Hence, it is necessary once again to instruct on this matter and to reassert what Scripture plainly teaches and why the Church cannot affirm what the world demands we affirm. An essential fact is that the Scriptures are very clear in unambiguously, uncompromisingly declaring homosexual acts as a serious sin and as disordered.  “Disordered” here means that they are acts that are not ordered to their proper end or purpose. Sexual acts are, by their very nature, ordered to procreation and to the bonding of the mother and father who will raise the children conceived by their sexual intimacy. These ends or

Cardinal George pressured not to pull funding for immigrant group promoting gay ‘marriage’

CHICAGO, July 29, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews ) – The Archbishop of Chicago is under fire from local political leaders after threatening deny funding to several members of the  Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights  (ICIRR), which recently came out in support of same-sex “marriage.” In a May 23  statement , ICIRR had written, “As an organization dedicated to the full inclusion of all Americans, whether foreign-born or native-born … ICIRR supports marriage equality.” Cardinal Francis George The Chicago diocese’s Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has been contributing between $25,000 and $30,000 each year to several of ICIRR’s member groups to aid humanitarian efforts in poverty-stricken neighborhoods. But since CCHD funding agreements are contingent on recipients not supporting agendas contrary to the Catholic faith, Archbishop Francis Cardinal George recently notified member groups that CCHD will be unable to provide any more funding unless the groups sev

Homosexual protesters call cardinal ‘arch bigot’ for opposing same-sex ‘marriage’

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS , February 13, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – As parishioners gathered for Sunday Mass , a radical group of homosexual activists protested outside Chicago’s Holy Name Cathedral, calling Francis Cardinal George the city’s  “arch-bigot”  for defending marriage. Carrying placards and spouting slogans on the sidewalk as worshipers entered the sanctuary, members of the Gay Liberation Network instructed Catholics to  “give up hate for Lent.” Cardinal Francis George David E. Smith, executive director of the  Illinois Family Institute  told LifeSiteNews.com the Gay Liberation Network is “a tiny group of radical activists who are trying to intimidate and name-call religious leaders like Cardinal George to try to coerce them into silence for standing up for God’s institution of marriage.” The protests have been an annual event since at least 2005, he said. Last year, the group swarmed the cathedral as police did nothing . In 2005, the Gay Liberation Network protested Chicago’s f

Gay groups trying force church give up adoption ministry

Image via Wikipedia Government officials in Illinois are reconsidering the Catholic Church ’s involvement in adoptions after gay activists complained that the Church refuses to give up children to homosexual couples who have obtained a “civil union” under the new civil union law. An official with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) told the  Windy City Times , a gay news service, in a March 9 article that the new civil unions legislation had complicated the state’s relationship with church groups that handle adoption services. DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe said that an “an ongoing review of all the related legal issues” was in the works. The Windy City Times claimed that the result of that review “will likely come down to a choice for the agencies involved: Change their policy and allow for openly gay and lesbian people to be licensed as foster parents or lose state funding.” The development had been anticipated by concerned Church leaders: in Novemb

Pro-homosexuality Catholic group condemned

Image via Wikipedia The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) warned Catholics this week against the self-identified “Catholic” group New Ways Ministry ’s position on homosexuality. In a statement from the USCCB, Cardinal Donald Wuerl , Archbishop of Washington and chairman of the Committee on Doctrine, condemned the group’s newly published booklet entitled “ Marriage Equality : A Positive Catholic Approach,” written by the group’s executive director Francis DeBernardo. “In no manner is the position proposed by New Ways Ministry in conformity with Catholic teaching, and in no manner is this organization authorized to speak on behalf of the Catholic Church or to identify itself as a Catholic organization,” wrote Wuerl. Archbishop Wuerl affirmed Cardinal Francis George ’s statement of last year, while he was acting as president of the USCCB, regarding New Ways Ministry.  “I wish to make it clear that, like other groups that claim to be Catholic but deny central aspects of C

Chicago police told not to defend catholic worship but to support gays

Image
Image via Wikipedia The city of Chicago ordered its police force not to enforce the law against a mob of homosexualist activists who disrupted Mass at the Holy Name Cathedral to protest “anti-gay bigots” who support the Church’s teaching on marriage. The Gay Liberation Network staged the rally on the eve of Valentine’s Day, shouting and chanting loudly as churchgoers entered to celebrate Sunday Mass . The demonstration’s primary target was Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, who has spoken out in defense of traditional marriage between a man and a woman. Protesters had staged a similar disruption around the same time last year. In response to the protest, George, who was not present at the cathedral, acknowledged that the issue is deeply emotional on both sides but, “No matter the issue, Catholics should be able to worship in peace, without fear of harassment.” The  National Organization for Marriage  (NOM) released a video of the protest showing rainbow flag-waving protesters
