Why the gay cake verdict proves our freedom is under threat

Image
David Robertson responds to the news that a Christian run bakery in Northern Ireland has   lost an appeal   against a ruling that it discriminated against a gay man by refusing to make a cake bearing a pro- gay marriage slogan. We have finally arrived. We said that we would get here but we did not expect it to be so soon. The Ashers Bakery decision given today is a real signpost to the promised secular nirvana where in the UK we now have a system of state doctrine that must be obeyed. For those who are not aware of this case   my original post  provides the basic background.   This interview   that we conducted with Daniel and Amy McArthur shows what a lovely and thoughtful couple they are, and the dangers that have come from the Equalities Commission pursuing them.  The judges have today declared that the bakers were not allowed to provide a service only to people who agreed with their religious beliefs . The only problem with that perfectly reasonable statement is t

The Christian owners of a Northern Ireland bakery have lost their appeal against a ruling that their refusal to make a "gay cake" was discriminatory . IMMORAL HOMOSEXUAL POLITICS LOOSES AGAIN - GAYS SHOW THEIR REAL COLORS - JUDGES HIDE BEHIND FALSE LAWS Appeal court judges said that, under law, the bakers were not allowed to provide a service only to people who agreed with their religious beliefs . Two years ago, the family-run firm refused to make a cake iced with the slogan: "Support Gay Marriage". The order was placed at its Belfast shop by gay rights activist Gareth Lee. Timeline: Bakery discrimination case 'Gay cake' row Q&A Reaction to 'gay cake' appeal ruling Analysis: Ruling was 'surprisingly straightforward' The firm argued that the cake's message was against the bakers' religious views. Reacting to the ruling, Daniel McArthur from Ashers said he was "extremely disappointed" adding that it undermined

Another cake maker faces thousands in fines for refusing to bake gay ‘marriage’ cake—in Northern Ireland

Image
Once again a Christian baker is threatened with paying thousands of dollars in fines for refusing to bake a cake stating its support for same-sex “marriage” – this time in Northern Ireland . The Equality Commission of Northern Ireland has ordered a Christian bakery to pay compensation to a homosexual activist or face legal action for having refused to make a cake with the phrase “support gay marriage.” Colin and Karen McArthur, a Christian couple who run seven shops around Northern Ireland, own Ashers Baking Company. The name of their cake shops is taken from the Bible: Asher is one of the tribes of Israel known for its skilled bakers. Earlier this year Ashers bakery in Newtonabbey was approached by Gareth Lee of the homosexual advocacy group QueerSpace to make a cake for an event in observance of the " International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia ." Lee asked for a cake decorated with the slogan “support gay marriage,” along with the QueerSpace logo and

Another defeat for gay ‘marriage’ in Northern Ireland

BELFAST , Northern Ireland , May 5, 2014–– Once again, a measure to introduce same-sex “marriage” into Northern Ireland has failed, making it the only jurisdiction in Great Britain to have resisted the trend to redefine the institution of marriage. It is the third time in the past 18 months that the Northern Ireland Assembly has rejected same-sex “marriage” legislation. The bill was last introduced in the Northern Ireland Assembly last April, when it lost by a 53-42 vote. Six months before that, in October 2012, it lost 50-42. Northern Ireland's Assembly The Sinn Féin Party introduced the motion, which was supported by the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP). The Ulster Unionists and Democratic Unionists opposed it. Sinn Fein currently holds 29 of the Assembly’s 108 seats, while the Democratic Unionists hold 38. The Unionist parties have been aided by both the Anglican Church of Ireland and the Catholic Church , which have both made statements in favor of m

Marriage campaigners must talk about harms of homosexuality or lose the fight: Belfast campaigner

BELFAST,  – Defenders of traditional marriage in Northern Ireland and elsewhere are going to continue to lose ground, even among their own constituency of conservative Christians , until they start talking about the realities and harms of homosexual behavior , one of Belfast ’s leading pro-life and family advocates has said. “No one is putting forward an effective defense of marriage” without mentioning this issue, said Liam Gibson, Northern Ireland office of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children . “We’ll continue to lose numbers until we do, but whether anyone has the courage do to that is a different matter.” Campaigners for traditional marriage definitions have almost uniformly restricted themselves to lauding the institution as a source of social stability and an ideal environment to raise children, and shied away from critiquing homosexuality itself. And this embarrassment and fear of talking about what homosexual acts actually are crippling the efforts t

Convicted gay sex offender loses initial bid to muzzle pro-family website MassResistance

A convicted sex abuser who has filed a one million dollar suit against the pro-family group  Mass Resistance  suffered a setback last week when his motion for a preliminary injunction to silence the group was rejected by the presiding judge. “ Maine may not punish, through criminal sanction, an individual’s actions that are protected by the free speech clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution ,” wrote District Judge Patricia G. Worth in her decision, signed on July 11. Meanwhile, a police chief that Adam E. Flanders has repeatedly claimed supported his lawsuit and described his sex abuse charge as akin to “stealing a candy bar” has disputed Flanders’ account of events in a LifeSiteNews (LSN) interview. LSN has also learned that in addition to the sex abuse charge, Flanders has been convicted of assaulting a minor with whom he had a sexual relationship, as well as the boy’s father, with a knife.
