UN chief dismisses countries critical of LGBT stamp

Image
English: Ban Ki-moon 日本語: 潘基文 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon seemingly ignored and eventually dismissed concerns about the UN promoting homosexuality through explicit UN postage stamps , signaling that the stamps will not be withdrawn as some member states have demanded. Earlier this month countries stood by helplessly as UN bureaucrats presented a series of UN postage stamps that depict homosexuality, transsexualism, and homosexual “parenting” at UN headquarters to great fanfare and expense in an  eccentric ceremony  featuring an all male 33 member strong gay chorus singing love songs and show tunes against a backdrop of naked dancers and Greek gods. Delegations of at least 86 countries tried to prevent the release of the stamps on the eve of the event. Letters objecting to the stamps were sent to Ban Ki-moon on February 3 and remained unanswered for two weeks. Predictably the Secretary General, a vociferous proponent of social acceptance o

UN declines pressure to form a special immoral LGBT office

In a loss for homosexual groups at the United Nations , member states declined to establish a special UN office for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights last week. Earlier this year, UN insiders told the Friday Fax that homosexual and transgender rights would soon become mainstream at the United Nations. But their predictions failed to materialize at the current session of the Human Rights Council . Member states declined to create a special office to monitor LGBT rights globally, and proponents did not table a resolution to that effect because it would have likely failed. Norway , speaking on behalf of countries that supported such an office, told the Council on Monday that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ( LGBT ) issues should be integrated into the UN systematically at an “appropriate time”— effectively conceding this is impossible right now. Norway was part of a small group of countries that sponsored a conference calling for  LGBT rights in April,

UN Secretary General defies members on ‘reproductive rights,’ homosexuality

GENEVA, September 21, 2012, ( C-FAM )— UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon courted controversy last week when he told nations on the Human Rights Council to place lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual rights and reproductive rights at the forefront of the United Nations human rights agenda. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Ban Ki-moon addressed UN delegations at the opening of the 21st regular session of the Human Rights Council, applauded the work of the Council in 2012, and said that “in particular, I welcome the groundbreaking, first-ever intergovernmental discussion, in March this year, on discrimination and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity.” The Secretary General was referring to  a highly controversial panel discussion  on LGBT rights that took place during the last regular session of the Human Rights Council. Seventeen of the 47 states that are members of the Human Rights Council staged a walk out on the panel of experts. On that occasio

Vatican prelate blasts UN demand to abolish all laws against homosexual activity

ROME , March 1, 2012 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) – The demand by the United Nations Secretary General that African countries abolish all legal prohibitions against homosexual activity has met with anger from one African Vatican prelate who said that it was “not our culture; it’s against our faith” to endorse homosexuality. At a Vatican meeting on Africa earlier this month, Cardinal Robert Sarah , the President of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum for Human and Christian Development, told the  National Catholic Register , ( NCR ) “African bishops must react” to the demand. Cardinal Robert Sarah He described the secretary general’s comments as “stupid” and added that the “Catholic bishops of America must help us in Africa, by reacting themselves.” “It’s not possible to impose on the poor this kind of European mentality,” he added. UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon had told an assembly in Addis Ababa that what he called discrimination against homosexuals “has been ignored or even sanctioned

Sodomy must be criminalized

Image via Wikipedia The international movement to include homosexual behavior and identity within a new, specially protected class of rights is once more setting its sights on the UN Human Rights Council (HRC). The EU plans on introducing a joint statement at the Council similar to a 2008 EU-led declaration calling for “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” as protected non-discrimination categories that was submitted to the UN General Assembly and signed by 66 countries.  That 2008 declaration was met with a counter statement that was introduced the same day and signed by nearly 60 countries, as well as separate statements critical of the EU declaration that were issued by Russia, Belarus, and the Holy See. The current draft joint statement obtained by C-Fam’s Friday Fax recalls both the 2008 joint statement as well as a 2006 joint statement presented by Norway to the UN Human Rights Council and signed by 54 countries. The 2006 Norway statement focused narrowly on the issue
