Pentagon expected to offer benefits to same-sex ‘spouses’

WASHINGTON, D.C. , February 6, 2013 ( LifeSiteNews ) – In the waning days of his tenure, outgoing Obama administration defense secretary Leon Panetta is expected to announce the expansion of some military dependent benefits to the same-sex “spouses” of homosexual personnel. The new benefits may include housing privileges, access to base recreational facilities and shopping, and joint duty assignments for same-sex couples.    Leon Panetta At least for now, health care coverage and some other benefits will remain off-limits to homosexual couples due to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman in federal law. Repeal of military sodomy, bestiality laws halted

Image by BlueRobot via Flickr WASHINGTON , December 14, 2011 ( LifeSiteNews.com ) - An attempt by liberal lawmakers to repeal laws prohibiting sodomy and bestiality in the military has been defeated, the Family Research Council reported Tuesday. Lawmakers removed a repeal of Article 125 in the Uniform Code of Military Justice in this year’s Defense Authorization Bill, which had  passed the Senate last week , while finalizing the language out of conference, according to FRC. Article 125 states: “(a) Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration, however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense. (b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.” Congressional aides had hinted to media last week that the repeal was not likely to survive. White House to announce end of homosexual military ban based on skewed survey

Image via Wikipedia The Obama administration is on the brink of officially repealing the military’s ban on open homosexuality. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is expected to announce Friday afternoon that he has certified the change will not affect military readiness, according to Pentagon officials.  Panetta and Navy Admiral Mike Mullen will be meeting with President Obama at 2:45 p.m. Friday in the Oval Office , after which the announcement could take place. Once certified by Panetta and President Obama, the ban would be expected to end in another 60 days.
