Madonna christened her new-found attraction to women in the monumental book “Sex” and in the video for “ Justify My Love .” Gay magazines were covered with images of Madonna and her “gal-pal” lesbian comedian Sandra Bernhard . They were often photographed holding hands, caressing each other in public, or kissing.  The main-stream media took a rather sanitized look at these goings-on; and relegated them to just another Madonna publicity stunt. Now Rupert Everett finds himself in a somewhat less enviable position. The 53-year-old actor has been rounded on by gay rights groups after saying: "I can’t think of anything worse that being brought up by two gay dads." Everett’s comments are likely to offend celebrity parents such as Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish . The couple have a 21-month-old son Zachary, born to a surrogate mother. The singer, whose risqué, hypersexualized performances are supported by a large homosexual fan base, made the promise after being asked by a Russian-American lesbian activist to cancel her August concert in St. Petersburg in protest of the law, which was  recently instituted  by the city’s government. However, calling herself a “freedom fighter” who doesn’t “run away from adversity,” the singer has announced that she will “come to St. Petersburg to speak up for the gay community, to support the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyon
