I have a dream.  In my dream, hundreds of parents, doctors, counselors, are protesting outside children's hospitals throughout America. They keep protesting, not just for one day, but for months. They march in front of Lurie Children's in Chicago, Boston Children's, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, San Francisco Benioff Children's Hospital, Nationwide Children's in Columbus, Cincinnati Children's, Children's Medical Center in Dallas and unfortunately, many, many others. Through faces of anguish, outrage, and determination, the spirit of truth prevails. They carry signs with messages like these: "Stop mutilating young bodies!" "Your white coats hide black hearts!" "Gender 'change' is impossible! Stop the abuse!" "Keep Big Pharma hormones out of my child's body!" "Malpractice suits ahead — stop the gender train!" Pro-transgender activists gathered outside a Rhode Island Catholic Church last week to protest a lecture delivered by pediatrician Michelle Cretella, who views  affirming transgenderism in kids  as a form of child abuse . Dr. Michelle Cretella, MD, FCP, president of the American College of Pediatricians , is a prominent expert in children’s health who has battled against the relentless promotion of transgender ideology as it impacts kids. At issue was a recently-enacted Rhode Island law which prohibits parents from seeking psychological help for their gender dysphoric children.    Rhode Island Catholic   explained the reason for Cretella’s presentation at the Church: Last year, the State of Rhode Island made it illegal for a licensed medical professional to counsel a child away from the desire to change his/her gender identity, yet it remains legal to inject that same child with hormone blockers and cross-sex hormones. Two recent headlines proclaim, " Transgender people are  born that way , a new study has found," and "Scientists uncover  20 genes  linked to being transgender – supporting claims the condition has a physical basis." What are we to make of this? Before we evaluate these announcements, it's important that we understand that we are not discussing the question of people who are  intersex , referring to those who have a biological or chromosomal abnormality in terms of their sex. By definition, people who are intersex are born that way. It's also important that we remember the many sensational headlines that proclaimed that a gay gene (or the like) had been discovered. Every few years, a new "discovery" would be made about "proving" that people are born gay, only to be replaced by the latest "discovery," none of which proved definitive. The truth of gender is that it is determined by biology, not feelings, emotions or politics. Nobody can change their gender. Individuals have the right to live their private life as they wish, but they do not have the right to force their views on the nation via laws and regulations, nor do they have the right to characterize as discrimination or bigotry the views of people who will not agree that gender is based on something like politics, emotions or desires.
